Ray Spalding

I feel as if I've been his biggest critic but I have to admit he's been bringing it lately. He has a really good motor when he chooses to run it. With hard work, he has a chance to be a special player.

I have been critical of his play as well. He sort of has that early Earl Clark demeanor but he showed some emotion on Saturday.

The reaction after that big dunk he had was the most emotion I've seen from Ray and it was good to see IMO.

When Ray plays well we get a thread with less than 10 responses.

When Ray doesn't play well the threads go multiple pages.
So true. I guess the reason is easy enough to understand. We have a ton of negative posters who are only happy when there is something to whine about and not so many who enjoy giving props when earned.

Just wanted to give props to Spalding for playing a great game against Memphis. He ended up with 12 pts, 9 rebs, and 5 blocks. He was also 4-4 from the free throw line which is really encouraging to see.

Ray, like most any other front court player, will have ups and downs. Individual performance is sometimes a reflection of team performance. This is not a knock on any of the current guards on the roster, but... could you imagine if a great passer like Siva or T. Williams was on the team setting Ray up for lobs and easy baskets?

All that said, I look forward to the next Ray bashing session, it's right around the corner.

He's averaging nearly a double double and is getting 2.5 blks per game. His FT% is pushing the 80% range though it's a small sample, that's still pretty good. He's also hit a few 3s and really it's not easy to find too many PFs in the college game that bring so much to the table. Of course there are better PFs, but our guy is pretty good.

He needs 4 more blocks to equal last year's total.
