Just had to trump the athletic department, to put out the false "It's all about Academia" and "It's all about right/wrong" cloak. He's so "presidential" oh boy.

Ramsey is the one that should be gone. With all of his fiasco's he's involved in at the University and now acting unilaterally and screwing two innocent kids while going against the wishes of his coach and AD is unacceptable. Plus, apparently he's kept Tom and Rick in the dark throughout this entire investigation. He's unprofessional and a borderline criminal. Time for Ramsey to pack his things and get out. He's not wanted here.

I suppose I interpreted things differently. When I watched the press conference, I heard Ramsey say that the university's investigation was complete and they found that they were in violation of NCAA Rules. They immediately imposed the post-season ban, because it was the appropriate thing to do at the time. I inferred that Chuck Smrt, who has experience with this, told Ramsey that this was the right thing to do. To not do it would be to invite larger penalties from the NCAA for failure to act.
I also inferred that keeping the coach and AD in the dark was the appropriate thing to as well. While we would assume that Pitino and Jurich would not do anything to interfere with the investigation, an NCAA investigator or committee member would not assume as much. Then, the NCAA would say that the University did not take proper precautions to make sure the investigation was done correctly, potentially resulting in other penalties.

So what makes anyone think this will prevent the NCAA from still hammering us. Also Chuck Smrt isn't the end all to this situation. I would have rather taken my chances with the NCAA so that Lee and Lewis could play. I would have been more comfortable if Jurich was more involved. Ramsey has to much going on and to much incentive to cover his A$$.

CardsFirst I'm with you! As much as I love my beloved University (1981 Grad) I think we get hammered a lot worse by the NCAA and for more years than our self imposed 1 year of a joke ban. Are you kidding me who are we trying to look good for. Look at yourselves in the mirror as men and answer that question - my goodness have a little bit of integrity please. Image is nothing and its about who you are as a man. And as much as I like to think that academics is what the University is all about the reality of it is that the University is on the map because of athletics not academics! Now if the administrators want to change that than quit paying your coaches millions to coach sports and focus strictly on academics. How about trying to make the University a top 10 research center? Hell I would be satisfied with a top 60 research center. But I don't think that is the focus - you can't have it both ways. GO CARDS - L1C4!

Do you think Ramsey has been a good president for the University since his hire?

Curious to what you guy's think. To be honest after watching the team press conference I really feel bad for the team. Great group of young men who have worked their butts off. As Lee said today " You guys dont see all the work that we put in".

One thing that's pretty certain is that Doc has used up all of his mulligans. Rightly or wrongly, he's bearing the brunt of today's misfortune. And he had plenty of detractors coming into today.

Not too sure where his base of support is at this point, or if he even has one. The clock on him is ticking louder than it ever has...

I think Chuck Smrt knows what the NCAA considers appropriate action for what was found. I suspect that he knows that not acting in this situation would be, in the eyes of the NCAA, the same as the university turning a blind eye. Turning a blind eye would be "a lack of institutional control" resulting in further penalties.

Regardless, I don't think there is a right answer here. The people whose actions brought this on are gone and can't be held accountable. There is only "the university" which belongs to the NCAA. The university has to meet the standards of the NCAA, no matter how unfair or ridiculous. Whether it happens now or it the NCAA does something later, guys who had no part in it are going to pay the price. That is one of the the outrageous parts of college sports.

I agree, no one has an infinite amount of political chips to play. He has been using up the chips he accumulated over the years really fast.

I disagree. I think Pitino said it best when he said the first mistake that the university made was not having Tom Jurich doing the investigating.

No, I don't. He's actually been a disgrace with his numerous scandals. I want him gone.

I have been told by a very reliable person that Ramsey will not be president much longer, as in the next few months. The favored replacement is a local businessperson with educational ties.

Hadn't heard that statement. That statement makes me think there is a rift forming between Pitino and Ramsey, if there isn't one already. Publicly criticizing the boss does not go over well with the boss.

As bad as sports fans do not want to admit it but 99% of the staff, faculity, administrators and students that work and attend any university do it for the academic side of it. Not the sports program.

Students and their families spend a lot of hard earned money to obtain their degree in hopes of creating a better future for theirselves and families.

Anybody that works in a never ending profession that teaches young people and helps them with their futures does not do it because of the sports programs at their school.

Issues created by sports programs, regardless of the university, creates an embarssement with the professors, doctors, etc within the school and thru out their peers within academia and their profession.

There is more to a university then sports. Sports is entertainment played by kids for our enjoyment. Earning a degree is hard work and dedication as well as very, very expensive. It is not fair to discredit all of that hard work and expense over a sports issue wether it is right or wrong.

Your comment above should actually read "There is more to a university than sports. As much as you claim to know about the subject, it's evident your comments are not derived from actual experience spent on a college campus as a student.

You remind me of one of my college professors. Unfortunately, I have not learned to double check my smart phone. Darn thing has a mind of its own.

But I did graduate from college with a 3.79 gpa which landed me a great job in a profession I loved, afforded me to raise five kids and send every one of them to college and has given me a secure retirement (at age 52) for the past ten years.

Lucky for me four of my five kids earned partial or full scholarships but it was still very expensive. I have spent a lot of time on campus as a student, parent and within the scope of my employment.

Now, I really don't care if my phone put "then or than" or "collage or college" and I did not catch it and I don't care if I'm not as smart as you or anyone else because life is good. Keep up the good gramer checker job.

No one is perfect in this world.
