I was listening to Marques Maybin on the radio, I believe Wednesday and they were debating the fan involvement in assistant coach hires. The thought was fans shouldn’t be involved. And by involvement I mean just voicing their opinions.
So that got me thinking. I really don’t remember so much focus by fans on individual assistant coach hires in BB before. Sure we watched to see who was hired but I don’t recall such focus.
I believe the focus we see now is based on what Pitino allowed by his choice of hires. Specifically Jordon Fair. I knew someone that was close to UofL athletics at the time and I remember them telling me how people besides the leadership had questions about why he was hired. Are we more focused because of what happened? And understand that assistant coaches can bring down a program? I believe the answer is absolutely! I know I am. And did that situation create a lack of trust between the fans a HC? No fault of Macks, just the fallout from what occurred under CRP.
