Question from Minnesota about DeVante Parker

Hello all,

I hope everyone is having a good day... Right now in Minnesota there is a lot of talk about reuniting DeVante Parker with Teddy. I was wondering if you guys/gals could pass along some good information about the connection that those two had in college, and the type of player that Parker is. How does he run his routes, how is is catching, does he quit on plays, will he block, and of course how is he as a person?

Btw ... we are taking good care of Teddy for you guys, the fans love him and every time he runs onto the field the Teddy chants come out. I was at the game when the Panthers came to town and the Teddy chants got so load, he had to signal to quiet down. The kid has it, thanks for preparing him for the pros!

Best wishes in the upcoming season.

Parker is a stud. He is a freak athlete, and like Teddy, is very grounded (humble) with a great work ethic. If you guys have a chance to get him, and pass, it will be a Cleveland Brown-like faux pas. It would not be surprising to me if he goes earlier.

I guess you also know if Alabama's receiver Amari Cooper is still around, he may have some nice chemistry with Teddy, too. After all, he was one of Teddy's WRs in high school at Miami Northwestern. You guys were very lucky to get Teddy, and are very lucky to be in the position to get a great WR this year. Either one of these guys a likely home run selection for you.

Your head coach doesn't deserve Teddy or DeVante. I hope the SOB gets fired, or our guys both end up making millions playing for another team.

He's a winner all around. High character guy with freakish talent.

I'll let others speak of Devante's awesome abilities. I wanted to respond to the "Teddy" chants in Minnesota. Is that relatively normal behavior for the Vikings at home? I try to watch all of the Viking's game now that Teddy is there, and I was stunned to hear a PRO crowd chant a player's name like that. I heard it early in the season, before TB had a chance to prove himself much. It was just a real kick to hear that in a professional stadium. It seemed more like a college crowd thing to do, which, trust me, is a huge compliment. I'm sure that helped Teddy's confidence immensely. Thanks to ALL Minnesota and Vikings fans for making our guy feel so loved and welcomed. I would LOVE to see Bridgewater and Parker hook up as teammates next season. Go Vikings!!!

I utterly despised the Vikings from Dec 27, 1969 until May 8, 2014. Then I got over it.

You guys won't go wrong if you pick Devante. We'd love to see it. (All of us except Zipp)

Parker was all-state in basketball, great rebounder. He can go up and get the ball, football or basketball. Great athlete, might be the best receiver ever produced in the state of Kentucky.

The Vikings crowds are always loud and have chanted before, but that was when AP went for 296 yards or when he won MVP. Minnesota loves "Touch Down Teddy" because he give us hope and we can see how good he is. This year he didn't have a lot of help.... no run game, bad o line, and our best WR was plucked from the Browns practice team. Along with the fact our last good qb other the Faver ( for that one year) was Daunte Culpepper, which was a while ago.

Teddy has a lot of Midwest qualities that people like doesn't showboat[/B] ( his first pro TD he shook hand with the players and walked off the field), even knelled, love of family, and a hard worker.

So, I dont see the chanting stopping any time soon.

Parker is, without much doubt, the best athlete in the upcoming NFL draft. If he had played at a football factory like Alabama or Ohio State (and did not break a bone in his foot in the preseason like he did in August 2014), he would probably be your Heisman trophy winner. I cannot ever remember anyone drafting a wide receiver with the first pick, but that's the only reason someone would not draft him #1.

He's the complete package. His size, strength, speed, intelligence and work ethic are all at an elite level. He is unstoppable in one-on-one coverage on the fade route, as he proved over-and-over. And with his speed, he's positively electric in open space after he catches the ball.

He is this generation's Jerry Rice - except that, unlike Jerry, he will run a blazing fast 40 time at the combine. The state of Minnesota should have a parade if they get him at #11.

Nowadays, I don't give a damn about pro sports, and I don't want Zimmer to be the beneficiary of anything related to U of L. I hope Teddy tears it up next year, and that Zimmer's caught with his pants down to the degree that gets him fired.

Nobody deserves good fortune playing football more than DeVante and Teddy...

Minnsnowta- I grew up in South Dakota and have been a lifetime Vikings fan. I am old enough to remember their Super Bowl Purple People Eater days. I used to love going to Vikings games. I have been in Louisville for 31 years now and love the Cards with equal measure.

DeVante Parker is Randy Moss good without the baggage. He is humble and hard working just like Teddy. I know the Vikes also need to draft to protect Teddy, but I hope they use their 1st round pick to draft DeVante.

I can't wait to see Teddy and DeVante together in Minny next season. For years I've been looking for a good reason to dump the Bears.

Like zipp, I've not been a pro sports fan for most of my life. Only the Braves in baseball during their run in the 90's. We have no NBA or NFL team in Louisville and that suits me fine. I have never had a favorite team from either league. I usually just follow former Cardinals to see how they fare. Of course there's not much of that in the NBA. One of the biggest mysteries in sports.

But football is another story. There's lots of former Cards in the NFL and many of them have and are doing quite well. I tried to watch Vikings games when Teddy got the starting job and found myself becoming a Vikings fan. If the Vikes do draft Parker, it's done! I'll be a Minnesota Vikings fan big time. Although I do agree with zipp that their head coach is a ass with his comments about our head coach. I know he is not alone with his opinion but Louisville fans are not going to like it. Hopefully, he will refrain from doing any more of this. After all, he could have two Louisville players in his QB/WR that will get him back in the playoffs.

Parker posts a 4.45 / 40 at the combine. Presses 17 in the 225 bench.

WVU- White a 4.35

Bama- Cooper 4.42

Miami- Dorsett 4.33

I love DeVante, but he is NOT Randy Moss good. Moss was a step above and a step faster than every one else on the field. I think he ran a 4.25ish 40. Moss was in a league all his own (baggage not withstanding).

Devante could wind up being a great one, but Moss was one of the all time greats.

Just my perspective from our seats at field level on the endzone looking straight up the sideline. When you watch Parker run his routes particularly on sideline or fades notice how he finds the ball in the air and then he will move his cover guy off the ball with just a small adjustment to the route. Just before the ball gets there he will adjust back to the ball and now he has created just enough space for him to make the catch. It's hard to pick up on watching TV because the work has already been done by the time the camera gets on him and making the play.

I cannot count how many times he was blanketed by a cover guy or two and you see the ball coming and think no way he makes this catch and by the time the ball arrives he is in space and the only person that can make a play on the ball. It is something I have never seen in 10 years of sitting in these seats at Papa John's. The guy will be an elite talent and should make even an average QB look like competent and a hopefully a star QB like Teddy look like a stud.

lou, I almost hope you're wrong about that. I don't know the first thing about pro football as I never watch it. But as effective as you make that sound for DP, it also sounds a little gimmicky. How well will NFL-caliber DBs be faked out by that same routine?...

You stated all you needed to state, by admitting you dont watch pro ball.
Why dont you sit this one out. Us Vikings fans are prognosticating.

So, you're saying that lou has happened upon a clever tactic never before revealed that distinguishes a truly great receiver?

Or maybe only Viking fans know that??

He is getting major love from the So-Called experts after his NFL Combine Performance...ESPN Mel Kiper:

The elite trio
Should go in top-10 range, can be impact NFL players early on.

Amari Cooper: There really isn't a flaw in Cooper's game at this point, and running a 4.42 40 at the combine eases any long-speed concerns. I had Cooper as my No. 1 WR even with some questions as to whether he was in the same "athlete" class as some other WS in this class, but the distance between him and even the athletic freaks is almost negligible now. He caught 84 more passes than the next-closest Bama player. Think about that.
Kevin White: White is probably closer to Cooper on most boards than he was heading into Indy. He ran 4.35 with a 1.52 10-yard split, so there's no question about the quick-twitch explosiveness now. He has star potential, especially if he continues to improve.
DeVante Parker: He's A.J. Green Lite -- but not that light. Given his big catch radius and ability to beat defenders at the catch point (see: arms longer than 33 inches), running 4.45 at 6-foot-2 and 209 pounds puts him in a top class of athlete as well. A difference-maker and potential No. 1 receiver.

Tend to agree with Kratz. As far as speed and natural talent Moss was amazing. I personally still like Parker and see him in the same mold as Jerry Rice. Very good speed, great hands, superior route runner, the best in this class at yards after contact. Devante will be a harder worker then the other receivers mentioned in this draft.

Cards fan here and actually been a vikings fan since 1992. Devante would be great for our squad. Has great speed, great hands and height. Has all the intangibles. The only thing that might concern management is that he tends to get hurt alot. That's probably the only knock.

I only remember Devante being hurt once. That was this year. It was a freak accident landing his foot on another players shoe after a high speed jump. Hardly hut a lot. ????
