Prediction about ACC

I would guess that ABC/ESPN will encourage the ACC to readjust their divisional breakdown to improve the conference championship .
I agree. The noise to do away with the divisions and take the top 2 teams has already started.

Not so fast.... Last year it was Clemson and what looked like a revived Miami, and I'm sure ABC/ESPN was happy with that. This year, the team with the next best record after Clemson was Syracuse. Even though that game was close during the regular season (with a Clemson qb injury), would that have really excited a national audience? What the ACC and tv needs is for teams like Miami, Va Tech, and Louisville to rebound.

I heard it last night during the broadcast while they put up graphic on the screen. Announcers suggested rearranging the divisions or going the Big 12 route and having the top two teams play.

The 1st suggestion is a temporal solution. Who is to say how things are going to be 5-10 years down the road? The 2nd is farce. Can you imagine the squabbling going on about unbalanced schedules and the like from who ever loses the tiebreakers between the 2nd and 3rd teams.

I look at the other division and see two teams VT and the U not performing at historical levels and both we and FSU underperforming. The answer IMO lies in these programs getting it back in gear.

If Disney wants to b__ch, they should encourage the ACC not to go head to head with the B10 championship.

The problem with top two is that what if the regular season champion wins by 2 games? Then the second place team wins the championship game. The RS champ still would have a better record by one game. Why should they not be the champion still?

This happens alot in Basketball tourneys.
Especially where the league was only getting 1 bid. Sometimes the regular season champ gets knocked out of the NCAAT.

If you had conferences of 10 teams that played round robin, and no money grabbing CCG, this would never be a problem.

Yeah a 7-5 team just beat a 10-2 team in a championship game...

The conference championships are pure money grabs by the NCAA. They really don’t serve any purpose unless someone gets upset. A regular season could determine the champion, especially if they removed the cupcake that everyone schedules and a add a conference opponent in its place. I’d personally rather the conf. Championship be removed all together and instead expand the playoff system (would make up for lost revenue) to a 12 team playoff with top 4 seeds getting a bye. At least do 8 teams but 12 teams would open the door up for more non traditional power house to make some noise.
It’s a shame UCF has went undeafeated two straight years and didn’t have a shot at the playoffs. I certainly don’t think they are close to being one of the top four teams this year, and I think LSU is gonna drilll them. But sports are made for underdog stories. Heck Boise State beat Oklahoma several years ago, UCF beat Auburn last year...it’s unlikey they make noise in a playoff system but they at least have a chance to prove themselves on the field.
