Current Bills safety, just 24 years old. Former Pitt Panther. Hurt tackling Bengals WR Tee Higgins. Spent a long time on the ground with emergency personnel working on him before being taken off in an ambulance.

Was watching the game. It wasn't that hard of a hit and he got right up after making the tackle, but then he collapsed.

CPR had to be administered and with players crying on the field, the young man's life appears to be in peril.

I can't imagine the game will continue.

I hope he recovers they listed him as critical condition no intensive which is better. Hopefully they stabilized him on the field and then the hospital secured his situation. It would be awful for a young man his age to go so early.

Critical is the most dire. Continued prayers.

It looks to be a heart problem? Something he already had but maybe didn't know?

ESPN is already talking about the danger of football but this wasn't a hard hit and maybe not even an injury. If it's the heart it's most likely a inherited condition.

I'm only speculating but this could be a Hank Gathers and Reggie Lewis tragedy that we have seen in basketball?

Praying for the young man. God bless him and his family.

Google: Commotio Cordis - happens with blunt force trauma to chest at absolutely wrong time in heart cycle.

Could be but that wasn't much of a hit when he made the tackle. If so it must be very rare as this is the first time it's happened in the NFL.

I actually read that, in October 1971, wide receiver Chuck Hughes of the Detroit Lions suffered a heart attack in a game against the Chicago Bears. Attempts to resuscitate him failed, and he died that day.

There was only about 1:30 left in the game when he collapsed, and the teams finished the game while the paramedics were working on him.
