Poorest passing by guards ; CC/ McMahon/Perry

I was up going to start a thread on this.

Literally, the fact that the Cards tried to pass to CC in the backcourt cost them the game.

The pass would go in and the player would wait on CC to come get the ball.

SO PATHETIC

Guards are supposed to be your surest ball handlers.
These three looked like middle schoolers when passing in the back court and away from the paint.

Cost the Cards a road win.
Such a pathetic loss.

Perry is not a high major guard, he should be in the OVC.
Jury is still out. But, hard to argue. We’ll see, either he’ll look himself in the mirror and work his ass off and improve, or he’ll tuck his tail and transfer. There is no third option.

Probably the biggest TO of the game was about the 3:19 mark. CC coughed it up - unforced error. Pretty sure we were up 62-57, and we don’t even get a shot on the possession. We score that possession, we win. Tough loss to swallow. We’ll quickly go from having a chance at a 3 seed down to a 5-7 very quickly.

Coach Mack gets a pass.
Yeah he could have coached better, but these aren't his players.

These players play to non-chalant.
Cards should have easily won by 15.
No killer instinct.
Play good, but never step on the other teams head and crush them.

It could be the difference between a SS, E8 team rather than a Final four team.

Outsiide of Nwora theirs really no super talented guys . IE the unicorn VJ thats another story

I also was going to start a thread on this. I don't know why we are doing this, passing the ball back to CC who is underneath the opponents basket is crazy. I guarantee our opponents reviewing game film will use this against us in the future.

If they EVER do that bullshit again, I'm going to catch a charge

Yeah we played a really bad game and lost in overtime we were definitely the better team. We really need to work on the lazy passes and work on the fundamentals of our passing instead of trying to be fancy with the pass. This team is a lot better than anybody expected if they can correct these weaknesses this team can do some damage in the tournament.

Plus i've heard Mack say pretty much all season say you cannot be CASUAL with the BB.So it's not like coach Mack doesn't make this a bullet point that is a players responsibility nothing a coach can do..

This late in the season you are who you are .

What I don't understand was that a bit earlier, Fore did the right move and just dribbled straight up the court while FSU covered CC. Then a couple plays later, instead of doing that again, he tries to toss it back to CC. Same with Ryan. FSU was giving a pretty clear path to anyone not named Cunnigham to take it up the court. Instead of doing that, the guards decide to do the one thing you SHOULDN'T do and pass it backward under the opponent's goal to a guarded player.

Boy - Talk about handing over a win on a silver platter. Surprised we didn't offer dessert and a after dinner coffee considering everything we were just giving away to them- Geesh ! . The mental focus of this squad at times is absolutely mind-boggling. We have got to work on this passing as its starting to get a little embarrassing. And its not just this game as there been quite a few games lately where the opposing team probably should have picked off more passes here and there. We have been fortunate actually. Going to need to lace the boots up tight and lock in for Tuesday or the outcome could be very ugly.

We go as CC goes. If there is a shutdown guard opposing him, Coach gonna have to think outside a bit. I think it's a common denominator in our losses. Maybe play him off the ball.Idk

Guards looked very overmatched when FSU started pressuring - definitely handed them the win.

Don't be surprised if the Cards look great and win on Tuesday.
Not trying to rain on your parade . I know their is always optimism and hope and yes the cards can and probably will clean up their ball handling and look much sounder. But the talent level of Duke vs ours we will be lucky to lose by 15 . They made Va look bad today that score was not indicative of what actually played out.

Their team this year has so much more athleticism we just cant match up with them i cant see anybody guarding Barrett and Reddish . Enoch might be able to slow Zion down a bit but he'll have Enoch in foul trouble the first 10 minutes he moves to good. And Williams has no chance whatsoever against him.

They man handled the Cavs in Charlottesville. Duke is practically an NBA team.

We match up more physically with Va . Jerome and Guy are very good offensive guys they hold their own on defense but they are not like the defensive length types . That Hunter kid and the african guy seem to be their best defensive guys. That's the game i'm now focusing on steal that one at home and take care of the lesser and equal opponents in between. That will make up for that Fl,st giveaway.

The teams that could out athlete Louisville guards have dominated games. UK, FSU, North Carolina and UT all could push the offense way out. CC is the only guard that can drive it or get into the lane against the better teams. McMahon, Sutton, and Fore aren't great ball handlers especially when the defense is really pressuring them. Nwora isn't great with the ball either.

It isn't surprising they turned it over what was surprising is the turnovers that were just careless. When a guard doesn't want the ball late in the game that is a problem. Fore should have never even looked to CC, all he had to do was dribble down the sideline, but he wanted no part of that. McMahon is a strength or mass issue he gets pushed around and can't clear space with his body.

I never mind losing to teams that are just better, but man losing games they have no business losing is tough. This makes 3 games where they should have won but couldn't finish.

I totally agree , it the carelessness that makes your stomach boil. That is why I hope Mack brings in guards especially with more size, better it not great handles, active and just ballers in general. Personally I'm growing a little tired of the pint sized guards we had over the years though every now and then you come across a few diamonds in the rough.

A couple under-sized 5th yr guys get exposed against stronger defenders.

The killer turnover under the basket by Fore appeared to be nerves. Game was slipping away and he just froze, and wanted to get rid of it ASAP.

Overall the team does have a # of unforced turnovers. There will always be reasons explaining a loss. Most losses this team endures as others have said are against the more physical opponents.

Right I get realistic. But note what I said: Don't be surprised if the Cards look good and beat Duke on Tuesday. Doesn't mean I expect it. This team dominated UNC at UNC, giving Roy his worst loss there ever. I recognize Duke's physical superiority, especially Zion's, Zion can push around our guys and score 50 or more tonight if K wants him to. Against FSU, Louisville was unbelievably sloppy with the ball and if one of those sloppy "gimme's" doesn't happen (yes I know, a hypothetical of one play in a 40 minute game) then the Cards have 9 ACC wins and we're all feeling a bit different. After watching smack the black off that ass in the UK game by 40 or whatever, I said anything less than 40-0 is underachieving. So, I agree, Duke should beat us and everyone else and finish 40-0 with the talent they have, but they have a couple of losses. Let's see how tonight plays out.

Physical teams seem to cause some "deer in headlights" moments for sure. This team needs an enforcer, a Gorgui, a Trez, a SVT, that kind of player, someone who'll push back and not get bullied down there.

Unfortunately that’s the difference between Mack and Pitino. The Pack line doesn’t depend on a rim protector.
