Pitt Game Thread

He was the one who made the tackle by going low leading with his shoulder and that is how he got hurt.

Looks like Satterfield is calling the plays. He has ran off tackle 4 times already on 2nd and long. It's so predictable.

WTF, CSS just sent a QB out of the injury tent to go for it on 4th down with a new play instead of calling a timeout....

Now he has Cooley trying to catch passes out of the backfield with a brace on his arm from playing defense. They were questioning his ability to grip on the sidelines.

It's a damn shame Malik having such a bad senior season. I really thought this would be his best season, but the combination of injuries, bad play calling and the pressure to perform has significantly hurt his confidence.

I'm shocked that I'm even saying this, but the defense saved CSS ass tonight.

Without the 4 turnovers, I don't think we win.

It took a monumental effort on that side of the ball. No doubt Pitt was thinking after their first drive that it was gonna be easy pickins. The Defense had other ideas against a team that likes to exert its will in the trenches.

Our offense is in big trouble. I know we were without Evans and Huggins-Bruce but we really struggle to move the ball effectively. Pitt has a good defense but we made it easy for them with poor play calling. Too many pre-snap penalties didn’t help either. Our offense literally did nothing with the four turnovers that our defense handed them. Why can’t Satt call a decent game??!!! All that to say….glad we won!

Cooley is number 23 he was a defensive back and got hurt when he went low leading with his shoulder to make the tackle. It happened with about 3 1/2 minutes left in the 1st quarter.

I don’t see how we beat Wake Forest with the amount of points they can put on the board. We are just seriously offensively challenged for multiple reasons.

There are several instances where identical numbers are being worn on the defensive side, to those on the offensive side. I cannot confirm one way or another, but I believe the #23 that was on the defensive side was not Cooley, but rather Griffin.

If you truly believe that “poor play calling” overshadows poor execution; then explain why the same off-tackle run by Cooley resulted in a 15 yard gain and a very critical first down late in the 2nd half that sustained the drive for the go ahead TD.

One of the very few strengths of this football team is, and has been our offensive line, and the subsequent success springing long gains by our RBs between the tackles. I will agree that 4th down incompleted pass was a questionable call, particularly when bringing Malik back in; but suspect the defense expected Malik to run the football.

Many years ago my team complained about play calling.

Coach proceeded to draw ever play we griped about on the board…and then marked “you block him and you block him and you block him….and it’s a TD”

He said “IF YOU EXECUTE we score on ever play we run”

Of course they won’t every play. But even “set up” plays will score if executed.

My wife always watched games (HS, college, NFL) and griped about inside running plays saying “they never work”. I started pointing out every time a play got more than 10 yds. Which of course was not uncommon.

Now it’s A joke. When it happens she says “there’s that play that never works”.

Bottom line, there are no “bad plays” if executed properly. If all our “bad plays” had been executed PROPERLY, Satt would be a genius and a hero today.

As would most coaches.

Cooley did play defense that is how he got hurt all you have to do is go back to the 3 1/2 minute mark in the first quarter and see the play he got hurt on. I recorded the game and I watched the play live and I was shocked he was in there so I rewound the game and saw it again. Unless there are 2 players on our team named Cooley and both of them wear number 23.

They even show him walking off the field with the injury and they show the back of his jersey with number 23 and his name Cooley on the back. Then he returns later with a brace on his injured arm.

If that were true, Bama and Georgia would score every play and score 80 plus every game.

Speaking of execution, I hope Malik watched plenty of game film from Saturday. If the play is a true read option, he has to make the read and react accordingly. The scouting report is out and it says he's hanging onto it 90% of the time.
He missed some chances for nice gains by missing the read or just simply hanging onto the ball.

OF course they would too. Everybody would.

Problem is, The defense has the same objective. To execute perfectly.

So again, there are no "bad" plays. Or bad defenses for that matter.

He who executes the most...wins. The worse you execute either way? The worse you get beat

Like I said, if all, or even half of Satt's "bad" play calls had been executed properly (MC hits wide open receivers etc) we wouldn't be talking about a new coach.
