Pitino to unlv??

Nothing surprises me Jeff Greer with Cj Rick's response on interested in FSU. Not a that's crazy no i'm not interested in UNLV was made who knows. For one Rick already struggles getting players so he needs to quell that stuff either way. Before he loses out on future recruits . Bad enough VJ King is going to the Nike brand game so their will be another fight to keep these other nike schools out of his ear.

Would he go?
Seriously, this post should be taken down. Ridiculous to think that Rick would leave this team and that UNLV or any other div I program is going after a coach that is currently involved in an NCAA investigation. Did you get your info from Matt Jones?

It's on Louisville 247.

Ridiculous! What could UNLV ever offer RP to entice him to leave UL. When he first came here, I expected him to stay 5-7 years, as he was a bit of a journey man. Whether it was age, 9/11, or whatnot, he settled down and stayed. Why would he leave now? This will (should) be his last stop.

He doesn't need more money. He won't get more prestige. UNLV, nope, not going to happen. Not even worth discussing.

This story reported they were offering CRP the head coach with Richard coming along as the coach in waiting. With Richard struggling, it is a pretty creative offer if true.

There are a lot of variables, I won't get into them all would make the post too long.

The biggest variable to me appears to be the discrepancy of salary available. The previous UNLV coach made 300k. RP makes, what, 5 million at Louisville? Assuming UNLV would pony up roughly 1 million for the "best" coach they could get, and/or closer to what the last guy made if the hire didn't have a full resume. So it would seem pretty obvious they aren't going to be offering Pitino even 50% of what he's making in Louisville.

That makes it hard to believe Rick would leave millions on the table to relocate to UNLV, especially at his age.

But, can't deny, the fact that he ended up here means he's certainly his own man!

Funny how uofl fans make fun of uk fans for being dumb but this stuff is actually being discussed. Brilliant.

I think on the letter of intent you can add outs. Not sure if this was the case. A verbal is just that. Means nothing. LOI secures that scholly so it cannot be given to another player. Now that works both ways. A LOI also tells the coach to stop recruiting others position filled. So the punishment of having to sit out helps protect the program from missing out because they fully committed to a kid but he changes his mind the last min . If the coach leaves most LOI have outs for the kids with no penalty.

Nothing would surprise me at this point. Let's face there is a bunch of stuff going on at Louisville. Ramsey is losing support. The scandal. With that said the timing is why I don't think it is a valid story. Pitino controls any information concerning him so if it is true he gave the OK.

The last thing Pitino wants to do during any season is talk about anything other than basketball that is why I don't buy this story. Not only does the story force him to talk about it, it puts his son in a terrible spot with Minnesota at a terrible time. Anyone that is close enough to know this kind of information also knows how close he is with Richard. Not to mention the last thing he wants do at this point is create more issues for Jurich.

I tend to agree there are still some close friends that don't want him at Louisville.

Not if the coach leaves, or did they change that?
That's true I think, but he's not leaving for UNLV or anywhere else. He's 63 and at his last coaching job. I think we all know that's true. All the crap that has went on here with him and how TJ stuck by him in spite of it means he will stay. He owes that much to Jurich.

The Rick Pitino that considered UNLV in early '01, is not the same person today. Life in those years since has taught him some valuable lessons. Loyalty is one. He's not a quitter esp in the middle of hard times.

Losgatos Im pretty sure the recruit can put it in the LOI if the coach leaves he can get out of it.

Reason im pretty sure this is true is because Xavier Henry , Dodson and another recruit all had signed LOI to the University of Memphis. When Cal left i remember it came up that those recruits all had a clause in the LOI if Cal left , they could get out with no penality. And they all took it once he left.

But the University can deny that request also. If im not mistaken Demarcus Cousins verballed to UAB and Davis. Cousins ended up backing out of his verbal because UAB would not put that Clause in his letter of intent , so he would not sign and ended up leaving all together.

I could be wrong. But i do remember it going down that way back then.

Just read a LA Times article. After Henery and others used this clause when Cal left , the Ncaa stepped in and stopped that practice. So today if you sign a loi , your locked in.

The big thing now is to sign financial aid papers. This guarantees a scholly , but does not lock u in

Losgatos is right. The NCAA's stance is that you commit to the school, not the coach (which is a bunch of crap). A school has to let you out of the LOI. And schools don't get to put clauses in LOI.

Here's an article that shows that Henry had to ask for his release.

Schools generally let you out of the LOI but they are not required to. The idea is you commit to the school not the coach.
When Wade got the Tennessee job, Coach Crum agreed with UofL and let Allan out of his LOI with Louisville so he could join his Dad in Knoxville.

More than likley some of his old friends and business partners with Uk ties when he was their. Who want this priogram too suffer.

The Pitino to UNLV is total BS ! The fact is the handlers (Agents including WWW) for John Calipari reached out to UNLV back during the first week of December concerning the UNLV job, it was a closed door meeting in Los Angeles with Calipari himself and the money men (boosters from UNLV). Now how that has warp into this Pitino to UNLV is just total non-sense!! There is a very good chance come late March or early April (2016) Calipari will be named and accept the head coaching position with UNLV.......These are the facts, nothing but !!!

Cardiotonic you have any proof or substance to that story? I feel like i get a lot of info from many different places, and that story is one i have not heard a peep out of. I mean Cals name pops up for every position from GM to a possible 120 million dollar HC. Hard to see how Cal could meet with Unlv brass and the only info comes from a guy on a rivals board. But i would love to know the details it would be fascinating to hear how it all came about.

Cardnaljim i read something similar from the LA Times. Basically said it was Cal putting these outs in the LOIs and the ncaa stepped in and said it meant nothing. Talked specifically about Brandon Knight being concerned about Cal leaving , so the alternative is doing financial aid papers.

One thing I have learned about life is never say never. With that said, I have no clue on whether this is true or not. However, nothing would surprise me about Rick Pitino!

no reason to even comment on the Cal to Vegas in Vegas post , just so off the wall out of no were lol.

I would be interested in Getting feed back on Momma Pitino. not so sure she would be interested in moving to Vegas. I've always respected and liked JP. no matter what she has always carried herself with class and dignity.

imagine what that women has dealt with in loss a lone. I always enjoyed seeing her at games and cheering the Cats on. the few times I've actually seen her in a interview and speak she came off like a beautiful caring person who does not seek out the attention that comes with being RPs wife. and she has done a great job as a mother. as much heat as JR takes sometimes, that young man has been extremely successful at a very young age. he also gives off that silent confidence like his mother. but he also has that competitive fire of his pops.

in my opinion I just do not see JP being interested in a Vegas life style at this point in her life. and if I remember she does like to stay pretty close to her son who past and was put to rest up East. Vegas seems like a long way from their.

you have made some very strange posts on this board, but this one is just silly. I don't see how either coach could leave elite schools for UNLV. either coach would need to have their head examined.

The TRUTH is always stranger than fiction come back in late March and we'll both will see if my post is "just silly"!

This whole story reeks of Yell Jones. I have very little doubt he is the "source". Rick will be back, take it to the bank.
