I know the rogue assistants disobeyed and betrayed him, however they didnt have enough respect or self respect to say no to this scheme.

The Cards roster was plenty set. Adding the #14 recruit without spending a dime of the recruiting budget was a red flag that Pitino ignored.

Im not sad to see him go. Never wanted him. Was one of the last Cards fans to accept him.
We didnt need a former SuCkS coach to rescue the University of Louisville.

To much scandal, lack of oversite. Lots of winning , yet not enough. The failure to monitor will be the legacy he left here.

Good riddance

Can't disagree, but I will refrain from piling on. I'll just thank the man for the memories he created (mostly good) and let things progress to the future.

Thanks coach Pitino. Best wishes to you and your family.

Not piling on Cue.

He was brought in to turns things around, now were back to square one.

Pitino thought he was going to be fired after the whoor powell lies. He was sending out feelers to the NBA. Dont blame him on that one.

Yet he could get recruiting under control. Incredible.

Fine and dandy for that perspective on September 27th. Who was raising those red flags back in June?

I questioned Bowen's and VJ's and Malik's commitments when they arrived--"Are they L1C4?" Although I wasn't keeping score, I don't recall the first guy chiming in "I agree, why?" No, too many people were happy getting commitments like those other guys get.

Pitino was doomed by the same mindset that dooms others unwilling to wait for results--trying to shortcut the process. He had a few good years left, and he wanted his best shot at another championship. So he let his guard down and assumed the best.

Same results that impatience brings in a fanbase. If you questioned when these guys were signed, you have a gripe. Otherwise you don't.

(Good sig, BTW...)

Also, you better be asking questions about Anfernee Simons...

Yeah, you kind of are and that's OK. He deserves it. FWIW I agree with you about everything regarding our former coach. I'm just going to leave it alone though.

Simons has decomitted. If it's because he was going to be paid then it seems he will be exposed and never play a game of college basketball. This will hurt the players more than the shoe companies and it's actually quite sad.

The players and families are complicit.
They cant wait 9 months to start cashing checks, which leads to bringing down Universities and placing future players on probation.

Pathetic slime.

This is what I want to know: Who has Pitino pissed off at the NCAA? We all know that colleges throughout the NCAA have been paying players for years but yet Pitino is the one who goes down.

He's the sacrificial lamb to keep the big 3 employed and their schools out the limelight.

Big time drug dealers often snitch on other drug dealers to stay in business.

This is the FBI, not the NCAA. FBI has zero interest in keeping traditional basketball powers safe.

I have often wondered the same thing. Agree with the OP though. We did not need Bowen.

Sad way to end a coaching career. I always enjoyed Pitino's style of play. Even when he was at Kentucky. Have to admit it.

Don’t know if the NCAA is after him. But it is funny how he called out this very system and damn if he didn’t get caught up in it. Those assistant coaches stabbed Pitino, the University, players, and fans in the back. What POS.

He got caught up in it because he wanted to get caught up in it. He is a very smart man so the 'I didn't know' defense doesn't work. It's possible his assistants did all this without his consent but it's hard to believe.

It really is wild that Pitino and Louisville got caught up in this.

I've said it in several other threads but it's just so strange the way Pitino has been talking recently.

Red flags and alarm bells should have been going off for everyone when that kid signed. Hindsight is 20/20 though. Damn.

I'm with Cue, whether he knew or not doesn't matter. No one is buying that story anymore.

He has a huge ego, as do most successful college coaches. They get paid to win, which sometimes means taking risks and at all costs. We may never know if he was directly involved.. my personal thinking, which means nothing, is that these guys don't make it to this level without micro managing everything around them. If that's not the case, he made some really bad hiring decisions that will haunt him forever.

Yeah, Pitino had to be gone after this. No choice in the matter even if he didn't know. I agree that we didn't even need Bowen with both Adel and King on the roster. I always did find it a bit odd how Bowen ended up here so late in the recruiting process. I had hoped that it was just a good bit of luck but it wasn't that. Never wanted Pitino to end his time here like this.

As a UK fan I will always desire you to lose on the court and will always want to beat you. However I do not think you deserve this. Even if UofL receives no punishment whatsoever (which won't happen) you as fans don't deserve the embarrassment this has caused your fandom. For your-sake and our rivalry I hope UofL hires a good coach that brings them out of this dark time.

Classy post.
