These surveys are normally no-brainers for me and most fans. As far as a big game in each sport around this time of year, we almost always take the football game since an early season basketball game means very little. And just about every football game is significant.
However, this is maybe the 1-time-in-10 where I'll take a basketball win over the slappies instead of a bowl win. And for several reasons.
Satterfield had a great year, and a bowl loss ain't changing that. A 7-6 season when just about everyone expected a losing one is not costing us any momentum heading into next year. I have some doubts about the defense going forward, but Satterfield has proven that he can win games with his offense--which keeps fans happy.
Mack is nowhere near a hot seat and can have a great year even if he loses Saturday. But a loss will bring out all of the whiners about never being able to win this game. As much as I'll take on that faction of our fanbase if we lose, I don't wanna hear it. It's little brother-ism at its height from the very people who bristle at being called little brother.
And a basketball win will send slapd!ck nation into full-blown, end-of-the-world meltdown mode. U of L fans are pikers compared to their LPT counterparts when it comes to agonizing after a big loss. KR and I both know that the slappy radio call-in shows will be epic.
So, gimme that basketball win this year, and football wins anytime thereafter...
