Pick the win: basketball OR football?...

These surveys are normally no-brainers for me and most fans. As far as a big game in each sport around this time of year, we almost always take the football game since an early season basketball game means very little. And just about every football game is significant.

However, this is maybe the 1-time-in-10 where I'll take a basketball win over the slappies instead of a bowl win. And for several reasons.

Satterfield had a great year, and a bowl loss ain't changing that. A 7-6 season when just about everyone expected a losing one is not costing us any momentum heading into next year. I have some doubts about the defense going forward, but Satterfield has proven that he can win games with his offense--which keeps fans happy.

Mack is nowhere near a hot seat and can have a great year even if he loses Saturday. But a loss will bring out all of the whiners about never being able to win this game. As much as I'll take on that faction of our fanbase if we lose, I don't wanna hear it. It's little brother-ism at its height from the very people who bristle at being called little brother.

And a basketball win will send slapd!ck nation into full-blown, end-of-the-world meltdown mode. U of L fans are pikers compared to their LPT counterparts when it comes to agonizing after a big loss. KR and I both know that the slappy radio call-in shows will be epic.

So, gimme that basketball win this year, and football wins anytime thereafter...

Completely agree with all of this. There is a poll on the UK site "Do you wanna FARRR that sonofabeyitch Cal?" and right now it is at 12% "Yes." If they lose tomorrow, that number will spike and sports talk will be amazing for all the reasons you mentioned (still not as amazing as Pittsburgh's 93.6 "The Fan" after a Stillers loss, nothing beats drunken entitled yinzers wanting to FARRR and fight everybody after a loss).

I also sort of expect the football cards to get spanked like one of Katina's hos on Monday. I hope I'm wrong.

No choice. Win BOTH is the objective every year. Since this year we can only win the basketball game, then lets do that.

Go CARDS!!!

I am used to losing to UK, kind of a right of passage before the ACC starts.
So give me the football W. [I want both but if I could only have one then it would be football, plus I am going to football game]

Don't see why we can't end up Monday night with a W in FB, W in MBBs against KY and a W in WBB on Sunday. Hey, I'm a half full type of person. Go CARDS!

I’m getting more optimistic about the bowl game. Miss St seems a bit dysfunctional at the moment and I think Satt will have our guys amped. Think we get a win there. Not as confident about Saturday, unfortunately. Enoch and Williams needs to stay out of foul trouble and come up big for us.

Oh yeah and the Ravens kick @$$ against the Steelers Sunday without LJ (sorry Steelers2012).

I think as much as i hate.... hate always losing to them in bball, if i had to choose one it would be to win in fb. Football wins mater so much more. To make a bowl, to get a better bowl, or maybe even one day to (pipedream) make the playoffs. A bball lose affects nothing, except how we feel. If we lose to them tomorrow on the road it doesn't change anything from our season goals. We can still be a high seed.

But.... it does suck losing to them in bball

Agree with that logic 90% of the time. For me, this year is an exception for the reasons I've stated above.

And I'll admit a lot of it is grounded in the prevailing slappy sentiment that their season is on the brink. Their losing tomorrow will be a major push over that precipice...

If the choice is this basketball game or next year’s football game, then without hesitation please give me the win in next year’s football game.

Basketball.

It's just far and away time to slap the monkey right off our back.
If I listen to Cal anymore, I might feel inclined to root for the Cats....nah.
Hell, I'm all mistied up over here worrying about the state of their program.
Basketball.

Well, given the choice, it’s really simple for me. We need the win in basketball. Why? In the polls and based on performance to date, we’re supposed to have the better player, better team. We have already overachieve in football so winning a meaningless bowl game is good but not a necessity. Satterfield has already made one of the biggest turnarounds in football. Now especially with a backup QB, beating Miss St wouldn’t be much of a shock. Beating the kitties in Corrupt would last a year, at least for me.

BASKETBALL plain and simple! Today Decorcey stated 1 good reason why the Duke and UNC rivalry is so much better than ours, Both teams win against each consistently making it a real meaningful rivalry. You cannot even call this bb game a rivalry anyone due to Cards very seldom winning. It's an embarrassment . We really need to start winning games starting tomorrow.

Ok.....i did not properly read the initial premise of this survey. If its bowl win or beating UK in bball this year.....bball win for sure. In this case bowl win is basically meaningless..... where bball win is bigger for our mental health and for possible seed line. My first response was each year beating UK in either bball or fb.

I did not properly respond to the OP either. That happens around here sometimes.

Yes, the bowl game. It's only a question tonite because neither game has been played...

This is easy I don’t think a bowl game win or loss changes anything going forward. A win in basketball at Rupp would be a pretty big deal for Mack. Give me basketball this year.

Football in future years could end up being more significant.

I think the options are win the UL@UK basketball game or win the bowl game vs MSU.
Oops.

Sorry about that. Didn't read the OP that closely. I'm choosing the basketball game today simply because the football team has already exceeded my expectations by making a bowl game in the first place this year. I really want to see the Cards take away the soul of UofK's basketball team today. If the Cards beat UofK badly, they'll fall out of the next poll. I want to see that happen.

Go CARDS!!!

Hard choice for me as I dislike losing in any game UofL plays.

But OP makes a compelling case for picking the CBB game as having a much bigger impact this year. Sold me as I agree with one I seldom agree with. Must be the end of the year Good Cheer rising up in me.:)

Upcoming Happy New Year Zipp!!!! Hope you are right today.;)
