The problem with Lamar Jackson as a commitment was that he had become such a hot prospect as signing day approached that he was a great risk to de-commit and sign with Florida. High risk, high reward....
And had he done that, we would have had a giant hole in our recruiting class where the QB spot should have been, because it would have been way too late to get a commitment from another top prospect.
That statement from Lamar Thomas sounds bad only in hindsight, because Jackson (a) turned out to be a special player and (b) did not decide to flip to Florida on signing day.
