What is the issue with his defense? Is it scheme or lack of players? Grantham looked like he had a much more attacking scheme.
In retrospect, It did seem like an “oh ok, I hope this works out, even though I have no real reason to believe it will” moment when they hired him.I’m not sure why everyone’s piling on sirmon - I mean after all, he’s achieving at the same level he has his entire career.
He’s mediocre at best but that should not be a shock. The shock was - and continues to be - how in the hell petrino could hire him.
It doesn't matter who's recruits they are. You don't get recruited by a D-1 football school in a power 5 conference and not know how to tackle! I understand one might disagree with a defensive scheme or style, but what I take from this poor showing of a defense is lack of coaching. I've seen better technique and coaching is grade school and youth football leagues! Kids are taught that in both offense and defense "low man wins". Why would try and tackle a 240+ RB high?
The biggest issue we have is NO, zip--nada, defensive line. VERY poor job recruiting there the past 3 years and CBP blew it off last signing day, well, it's reality now and it's biting us in our red and black arses. Then losing Kyle Shortidge for whatever reason and then Chris Williams left our D Line, small and VERY inexperienced. But good news there with the 2018 class, big, huge dudes on the way. I was defensive for Sirmon until he announced he was a "player's coach." Never seen one of those succeeed. Means your soft on players. Either way, I'm already on to 2018!
This season is done...if you can't beat BC at home, then who can you beat. DC should be fired or demoted...don't know how defense can get any worse I think Petrino job should be in trouble. This season sucks.I think the only solution and I'm not sure why nobody is talking about is to demote Sirmon and promote associate HC Ward to D.C. He was the D.C. for South Carolina in their heyday under Spurrier. It's too late in the season to find a replacement coach that's available.

That’s what you get when you combine running off your DC late in the process with being a guy few people would like to work for.And he got a 33% pay raise from his stellar one year stint at MSU. Mind boggling
