"Mentally he was a lot better today," Satterfield said. "He was a lot sharper in his decision making, which is the key. He was a lot more accurate today. The ball was where it needed to be today, which is a good sign in his development."

This is by far the biggest concern for me as we head into the season. Even if we are emphasizing the running game and running backs, we will need consistent play, and a consistent playmaker, at the QB spot in order to be balanced and difficult to stop.

Sounds like Pass still has quite a lot of work to do to be a consistent playmaker. He was better in this scrimmage, which means that he has struggled some in other practices. Even in this “ good” scrimmage, Satterfield’s mentioned two mental errors.

I’m not going to sugar-coat this: I expect significantly better and more consistent play from a 4th year junior.

I expect he will be much improved this year. There is still a lot of catching up to do. His first couple years the focus was Lamar, not Pass, so I imagine he didnt get the first team reps. Last year was all him but with a staff that seemed to not want to coach after the HC mailed it in. So really, this is his first year where he gets solid coaching. Almost like being a frosh.

Yeah, Satt's comments aren't exactly a ringing endorsement. But, I've learned when coaches speak publicly about a player's performance, more often than not they're trying to send a message to that player via the media.

He was so tentative last year. But it’s tough to know if that’s his natural mentality or was it more a function of Petrino wrecking his confidence. One thing that confounded me last year was that Petrino would seemingly panic with the offense. Instead of establishing a running game and running some clock he’d try to sling it around with Pass as soon as we got down. The last thing Pass needed was no established running game and the thing our defense needed was a clock that stopped a lot.

a QB's accuracy is only as good as the O-Line protects. Bob 1.0 understood that he had to establish the RUN first which really opened up Play action and the TE. Bob 2.0 was looking for a quick strike and never really tried to establish the run despite having solid backs.
Going forward, Sat has some backs to take some pressure off of PASS, and will get easy passes first. Luckily for Him there are experienced WR, but the line MUST protect. If this happens UL can put some pressure on teams

I am very interested to see the commitment to the run with this staff. It’s easy when you are protecting leads. But we’ll be doing a lot of coming from behind this year, I fear. Also, if defenses load up on the run to force 2nd and 10, 3rd and 8, then what? We’ll see.

My worry about any of the QB's and establishing the run game is the line. I think Pass can be better if he has time to throw the ball, but a few sacks could rattle his confidence. The ability to establish the run is the same thing.

I think Satterfield will find some creative ways to get the speed involved. We need to not wear our hogs down as it will be a long year. I think the coaching can make our front guys better, but 1 or 2 injuries worry me.
