OT- Legalization of Sports Betting...

I think our idiot governor will screw it up citing personal BS religious views.

I think it will help the NCAA and other leagues. Despite their whining, getting all this black market betting out into the open and regulated will make it easier to monitor problems like point shaving.

I think it may increase instances such as point shaving. Dont care though, I'm for it.

I will not attack a person for their religious beliefs but I do believe his “anti-gambling” stance is hypocritical. While “preaching” his anti gambling (casinos) message he shows up at Churchill Downs advocating our state’s largest gambling industry. Hey Mr Govenor NOBODY would go to Churchlll Downs to see a bunch of pretty horses - they go there to GAMBLE. If you don’t “believe” in gambling then don’t show up at a venue that is built on gambling. How about allowing us to VOTE on legalized casinos, even as a local option? Isn’t voting an American right?

I certainly can see the pitfalls with gambling, there are several people out there that make poor financial decisions anyway without gambling. But I believe most people do it for fun. People need to realize that even the "Pros" only win about 53% of the time. Its not as easy as everyone thinks and the majority of people will lose money, otherwise sports books would not be in business.

I never really understood how you can make the lottery and scratch off tickets legal and sports gambling illegal. If I am going to "risk" money I would much rather depend on my knowledge than pure luck. People who really want to gamble now on sports can do so easily with offshore accounts. Making it legal will keep the revenue in the United States. It will drive ratings through the roof for all sports. Similar to what fantasy football has done with the NFL.

It's going to be a whole new world. There will be point spreads on ESPN's sports ticker. There will be shows dedicated to gambling on sports networks. There will be all kinds of people advertising to sell their "expert" advice on tv and radio ads. The increase of revenue streams for sports leagues and states will be huge; if done correctly, w significant changes.

I would prefer a fighting chance of winning by doing some research before risking my money versus picking random numbers and hoping for the best. Same goes for scratch off tickets. I'm with The Muffin on this one.

I can tell you for fact that Churchill isn't just trying to entertain. That is part of it, but I personally watched several young men, college aged, getting themselves hooked on what they perceive as easy money . It's not, and the pit is deep.

As far as voting on it... why not?
