but there are 35 players on the team. and when they go to post season only 27 players are allowed on the roster. I think it was Bobby V interviewing the person giving the stats but i didn't catch their name. I think was even u of l's baseball radio announcer possibly. but Basically, only 12 players on the team on on scholarship.

in contrast, the person said Vandy give scholly's to all their players and are not restricted. That to me seems unfair, like you can pay your players but we cannot. any one else hear the same conversation and hear why does Vandy have more scholly's to give?

That is correct on the scholarships although they are split partially so there are more than 12 players with some sort of scholarship. Vanderbilt has a student-aid fund called “Opportunity Vanderbilt” which basically fills the gap between the partial scholarships and the remaining amount of tuition. Technically it is need based, but the threshold for “need” is pretty high. It seems like an unfair playing field but it’s a private institution that has the right to dole out need based aid.

Any player receiving scholarship money has to get 25% minimum. It would be interesting to see how much Vandy’s ability to bridge the financial gap of players they want is offset by academic requirements for acceptance to the university.

This belongs in the baseball thread but Vandy is not doing anything than what other schools are doing. They divide those 11.7 scholarships up with the most skilled positions, i.e pitchers, shortstops, getting the bigger chunks. The athletic scholarships are then supplemented with academic award scholarships (which you can imagine that Vandy has a lot available) but can also be supplemented with need scholarships i.e. income based, grants (money that doesn’t have to be paid back) low interest loans, military, work-study, one-parent households. It’s amazing what these athletic departments can do with 11.7 scholarships.

Definitely not apples to apples, but the academic requirements to get into Vandy are a lot different, as well. Don't think its 100% fair, but is what it is.....

It explains why they are really competitive in the non-revenue sport. They can't compete in the revenue sports, but thrive in a non revenue sport like baseball. A full ride for a baseball player to a school like Vandy is a significant recruiting advantage if other schools can't do the same.

It may of changed but when I played we got a part that was it. There was no mechanism to cover the rest of the cost like being suggested here. We did work study programs, but that was limited to a couple guys not 35 and it was couple hundred bucks a semester, I understand why kids turn down the pros to go to Vandy.

it's not under the Forums mouse over, drop down menu at the top of the page so i forget it's even there. mods should add it to the drop down menu

Yes, it is easy to get to the baseball forum. Come on folks!

Literally click on Forum and it will take you to a page that has all of the sports forums. Space down to baseball. In other words, don’t click to drop down.

i do not click on the link, i just use the rollover. no need to force me to click to force a new page to load, wait for that page to load, then have to click another link to get to the baseball forum.. simply unnecessary. i simply use the mouse over and click the forum i want. i shouldn't have to do extra work to find a forum when a 30 second programming change would put the forum on the drop down menu.
basically you are saying instead of the website being designed properly, every person should have to go thru extra clicks to find the forum. that's just dumb and inefficient. it's a simple fix that should have never needed to be made, should have been in the drop down list from the start. basic website programming 101. blame the mods not the person who cannot find the link.i've been programming websites for 20 years and that's simply stuff that you do from the start. like i said, basic stuff, 30 seconds of work.

Contact the person or entity in charge and offer your services to correct the issue.

Well glassman, I've had a brain injury for 20 yrs. If I can figure out how to get to the Dugout to post about baseball, I believe you should be able to do it too.
In the mean time, take your 20 yrs of programming to the admins.
