Reason I went to UofL. Becoming a state university made it much more affordable by the time I started in 74.

Yes, it did become more affordable. BUT the state raided our faculty and they went elsewhere. Plus the state refused to finance UofL so we became a pawn to the legislature in Frankfort.. Our becoming a “state university” ruined our academics for nearly 30 years. In the late ‘90s under the leadership of President Shumaker (sp) and then later with Dr. Ramsey our academics made a remarkable reccovery. Also Governor Pattons “Bucks for Brains” program helped UofL immensely. We are in a much better place today and we are moving forward in a positive vein and our upward growth is continuing under Neeli.

It is hard to believe that doesn’t seem that long ago time really goes quick.
