No chance beating UK this season now....

The morale issues have been developing ever since the middle of last season. Towles was just one of many who lost confidence in the staff and some of his team mates. USM arrives in Lexington with a rookie HC and that alone explains their 7 point underdog role. However, if UK's defense cannot contain an experienced and talented Sr QB it could be a close game and a Cat loss would be devastating to Stoops and the rest of their season. Not predicting the upset, but it will be interesting to see the results.

I'm just trying to find that line for Kentucky fans that Stoops has to cross where it finally dawns on them "maybe this guy is just a bad coach." Because 3 years of bad coaching, baffling in game calls, zero player development, 2 straight 2nd half season collapses, 2 straight collapses to Louisville, being taken to OT by EKU, beaten by WKU, being destroyed by UT, UGA, and Miss State, winning 4 SEC games in 3 years. numerous player suspensions, transfers and dismissals and huge coaching turnover has still not rattled the bulk of the fan base yet....So I'm excited to see what Stoops and company have in store for this season and see if maybe its the final straw that breaks their back.

Maybe I heard wrong but I think a DT and TE left the uk team yesterday??

Said Elam was going to have to "step up" and he said "I've lost weight, worked hard, and I'm ready!" (I think he turned around and found it again :p )

Anybody else heard this?

I think part of it is that they know they're financially stuck with Stoops thanks to Barnhart giving Stoops an unearned extension. The writing was on the wall at the end of last year but they know they have at least 2 and probably 3 more years of Stoops no matter what. Some of them don't want to torch Stoops right now knowing it accomplishes nothing, so they remain at least outwardly optimistic. Barnhart has played them like a violin.

They are betting on the world's greatest 30 pound weight loss in the history of college football.

As long as Stoops continues to land a bunch of 3 stars and occasionally a 4 star, they will continue to slurp the blue cool aid. Now granted within two years over half of these Yahtzees will leave the program. Regardless I think coach Stoops deserves a lifetime Contract.

I agree with you on the contract extension. Even the Bear didn't recruit like Coach Stoops. Who cares about wins and losses when we have bragging rights from Jan to Sept. every year thanks to our top ranked recruiting classes.

Yeah RC those guys were looking for a coach and they could NOT find one anywhere on the uahkay campus. Maybe they'll find one at their new "home".

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

I'm with you, man, but I suspect young fat Mark will be around for us to kick around again. His sharp negotiations with Barny guarantee a place at the sideline donut table for at least another season. It boggles the mind at what could be in store.

I can't wait til next year. As "can't miss" might say, the huge WINNING! of the trophy display case controversy this year already and the exceptional ongoing accomplishments of their space age nutrition program which, last season, had guys running 24 MPH!!!, are merely the setup for what may come next year. Everyone over there understands what a fabulous gain they made with the incomparable Lamar Thomas being stolen out from under poor Louisville and now, with Eddie Gran (Master) giving the keys to the Mercedes to Drew Barker, you can smell of excellence of Grampa Brooks returning like a Blue Tick Hound in the night.

ALL of what you said is easy to explain.

It's all Joker Phillip's fault.

You are right Senore, We have been waiting for next year for the last 10. Can't wait until 2017 gets here! and if that doesn't work out I just know 2018 will be our year.

Lots of hand wringing about losing Stoops after he goes 8-4. Same song and dance as last year and the year before. Truly a bizarro fan base.
I saw that. It's like a perpetual motion amputation memory, with reality being the excised limb.

Speculations like that are the psychoanalytic definition of wish fulfillment. Make an absurd statement, then treat it as if it is real and debate the outcome.

I read today that they have lost 10 players from the 2014 class they like to brag so much about.

So that was a fun little timewaster ... I reviewed UK's 28 man 2014 recruiting class as shown here on Rivals (not always the most accurate, but it's the best we've got) and compared it to the current UK roster. Sure enough, the following TWELVE players from that class are no longer on the UK roster, including 2 4-stars and 5 of the top 3-stars (5.7 Rivals rated):

Nick Richardson OL Westerville, OH 6'4" 285 5.8
Cory Johnson DT Brooklyn, NY 6'3" 295 5.8 7/20/13
Josh Krok OL Niles, OH 6'8" 308 5.7 1/23/14
Jared Tucker DB Stone Mountain, GA 5'11" 162 5.7 5/29/13
Jarrett LaRubbio OL Liberty Township, OH 6'5" 260 5.7 5/25/13
Thaddeus Snodgrass WR Springfield, OH 6'1" 184 5.7 4/12/13
Dorian Hendrix LB Huber Heights, OH 6'0" 225 5.7 3/22/13
Lloyd Tubman DE Louisville, KY 6'3" 228 5.6 2/6/14
Ryan Flannigan LB Brenham, TX 6'1" 220 5.6 6/6/13
Darryl Long TE Westerville, OH 6'5" 234 5.6 4/27/13
A.J. Stamps DB Scooba, MS 6'0" 185 5.5 1/30/14
T.V. Williams WR McKinney, TX 5'9" 143 5.5 7/10/13

From that class they do still have the following 16, including 8 4-stars and 1 high 3-star (5.7 RR) player:

Drew Barker QB Burlington, KY 6'3" 214 5.9 5/10/13
Stanley Williams RB Bethlehem, GA 5'8" 186 5.9 6/13/13
Blake Bone WR Woodruff, SC 6'5" 183 5.8 8/27/13
Kendall Randolph DB Tallahassee, FL 5'11" 175 5.8 1/22/14
Darius West DB Lima, OH 5'11" 196 5.8 6/11/13
Mike Edwards DB Cincinnati, OH 5'11" 182 5.8 6/10/13
Mikel Horton RB West Chester, OH 6'1" 230 5.8 4/20/13
Dorian Baker WR Cleveland, OH 6'3" 205 5.8
Kobie Walker LB Olney, MD 6'4" 210 5.7 5/14/13
Adrian Middleton DT Bowling Green, KY 6'4" 275 5.6 6/15/13
Nico Firios LB Longwood, FL 6'2" 225 5.6 6/11/13
Denzel Ware DE Crestview, FL 6'1" 241 5.6 6/9/13
Tymere Dubose DE Youngstown, OH 6'6" 265 5.6 4/27/13
Matt Elam DT Elizabethtown, KY 6'6" 325 5.6 1/30/14
Garrett Johnson WR Winter Garden, FL 5'9" 160 5.6 7/27/13
Jervontius Stallings OL Hoover, AL 6'4" 296 5.4 1/30/14

To be perfectly fair, we've had a pretty good deal of attrition in that class, as well. I will post those numbers right after this post.

Interesting info from both rosters. From a UK fans perspective that is definitely more attrition than you'd want. The positive side is that as many as 11 of the guys still around from that class will start this year and 3 or 4 of the others are in the two deep. That's a pretty strong number from one class. Especially so when you are talking about true juniors and RS Soph. Also speaks to how bare the cubbert was from what Joker left. Just not many RS Sr's, Seniors and RS juniors that see the field (with the exception of the Oline).

Im curious how many of the players listed in your 2014 class are starters or significant contributors? Clearly the 3 transfers are key guys

Starters (per the media guide depth chart) are Reggie Bonnafon (WR), Lukayus McNeil (OT), and Trumaine Washington (CB). Trevon Young would also be a starter at OLB, but he is out for the year with a slow-healing hip injury suffered in the Music City Bowl. Harvey-Clemons is also a starter.

Non-starters but on the depth chart are:
Danny Burns (OT), Charles Standberry (TE), Isaac Stewart (ILB), LJ Scott (RB), and Zykiesis Cannon (S). Also, transfers JaQuay Savage (WR) and Shaq Wiggins (CB) are on the depth chart.

So of the 15 listed as still on the team from the recruiting class, 3 are starters and 5 are top backups. Counting the 3 transfers, those numbers are 4 starters and 7 backups.

Thanks. Probably about what you would expect starters wise from guys 3 years in the program. for a program that has been successful for the last 5 or 6 years post Krag the 4th and 5th year guys should definitely be key contributors

Louisville's 2013 class looks similar, and you are right that the players who are still here are very big contributors ... there was a lot of roster-churn over Petrino's first two years.

Still on roster (9)
Charles Williams ATH Hialeah, FL 6'2" 180 5.7 1/23/13 (starting S)
James Hearns LB Tallahassee, FL 6'3" 230 5.8 6/29/13 (starting OLB)
Keith Kelsey Jr. LB Gainesville, FL 6'1" 217 5.6 1/29/13 (starting ILB)
James Quick WR Louisville, KY 6'1" 180 6 1/5/13 (starting WR)
De'Asian Richardson DE Orange Park, FL 6'3" 285 5.7 1/5/13 (starting DE)
Kyle Shortridge DT Loxahatchee, FL 6'2" 273 5.6 12/13/12 (backup DT)
Keith Towbridge TE Toledo, OH 6'4" 230 5.5 4/12/12 (starting TE)
Kyle Bolin QB Lexington, KY 6'3" 185 5.7 9/27/11 (backup QB)
Stacy Thomas LB Miami, FL 6'2" 235 5.7 (starting ILB)

No longer on roster (9)
Lyn Clark LB New Orleans, LA 6'2" 225 5.4 2/4/13 (transferred to Northwestern State)
Cameron Fraser OL Phenix City, AL 6'4" 290 5.6 1/30/13 (transferred to Youngstown State)
Finesse Middleton DT Gadsden, AL 5'11" 255 5.5 12/4/12 (graduated, transferred to South Alabama)
Chandler Bridges OL Flowery Branch, GA 6'4" 270 5.4 6/21/12 (transferred)
Skylar Lacy OL Greenwood, IN 6'6" 290 5.6 5/11/12 (graduated, transferred to San Jose State)
Terrence Ross DB Apopka, FL 6'2" 188 5.6 5/4/12 (graduated)
Richard Benjamin WR Tampa, FL 6'1" 195 5.7 12/20/12 (graduated)
Brett Nelson QB Chula Vista, CA 6'4" 220 5.5 12/18/12 (graduated)
Donel Elam LB Fleming Island, FL 6'1" 200 5.6 2/26/12 (never made it to campus)

As far as 5th year seniors go, there are only two on the team: DeAngelo Brown and Brandon Radcliff. So the suggestion that you MUST have a huge class of 5th year seniors to be competitive is not correct. It can help, certainly, but only as long as those 5th year seniors are also very talented.

Mickey Crum is either a starter or a huge contributor on the depth chart.

I love how some of them are calling this year a make or break year. Didn't a lot of them say that about last year, and they BROKE?

And wasn't one of the big raps on Joker how bad his player attrition was?

LPT Football: We make this crap up as we go along...

It will be tough hoeing to beat the Cats. ESPN just ranked us #12 in the SEC. It's amazing how quickly coach Stoops has us climbing the rankings and he's only in year 4.
