It was a confusing article. Not even sure what they were trying to say regarding the UK assistant.
Just like the Adidas FBI case, the NCAA isn’t going to get into the middle of it at this point. They have no ability to compel anyone to submit to interviews, so all the NCAA would do is cause everybody to go silent. If someone actually takes Avenatti’s claims seriously and decides to investigate, it will need to be some version of law enforcement, whether local, state or federal.
In this instance, the case is weaker because all we have are claims by a disgruntled AAU coach. There are no wiretaps of basketball coaches and Nike reps discussing this business and corroborating the AAU coach’s claims.
The only thing the UK assistant could have been accused of was failing to report to the NCAA that a Nike representative told him that NIke was paying high school players through their EYBL basketball program.
Failure to report is a pretty big deal ... it’s how this pay for play scheme stayed covered up. It’s also really hard to prove. Even if the conversation was recorded (it wasn’t), the UK coach could claim that he thought the Nike rep meant something different than what Avenatti claims the Nike rep meant.
I am not an Avenatti fan but if he was able to approach Nike wanting millions of dollars I would think he has more than hear say. I agree though this is going to take awhile to unfold I just hope it does.
Does he have the receipts, the audio, the hard copy evidence? I got to admit I have not followed this part of the news closely.

Nike created this system. Adidas was following their footprint. They weren’t stupid. Nike giving money to AAU isn’t a NCAA violation. AAU teams directing players to particular schools is not a NCAA violation. The head coaches were smart enough to stay out of the weeds like the Nike executives.
The FBI exposed 2 things something that the NCAA could never prove.
1) the shoe money was ending up in the players, family or handlers pocket.
2) coaches knew it was happening.
None of this matters because unless the NCAA can prove a coach knew of or directed payments. Even knowing of a proposed payment is a slippery slope for the NCAA. They would have to prove the money ended up in the players hand. KP knew the system but unless he is tied to $$$ and a recruit nothing the NCAA can do. Every program knew the system.

Oh Koz you haven’t heard. The reason their not getting the most elite players now is because they don’t pay players. Because Calimari just won’t do that. If nothing else they are entertaining.

Take out the fact he works for Calamari, Denny embraced black players when the Kentucky fans would not and now one of his guys is succeeding.
He's a UofL graduate and a national champion. While most of you are online talking crap, KP actually wore the uniform and lived the dream we all have of getting a ring and being apart of a banner raised. I don't want him as our HC, but I want him to do well. Cards 4 Cards is how I feel.

Every one is so but hurt that Cal hasn’t been getting Top 5 kids and crying over it, but just look at what’s going to happen to those Schools!! ( well should happen, but who knows)!! Anyway, I’d rather be a clean program and do what we’re doing than cheat, win , and have it all come crumbling down.
People Cal is doing this with Dignity , Grace and Honesty. We should all appreciate him more than we do because he deserves it. We are still the Gold Standard in College Basketball and we always have the chance to win a championship every year. Enjoy the ride because we’re in the middle of Greatness right here, and I think the second half is going to be 3-4 Championship wild ride!! Wooo. Go Cats!!!!

It's hard for me to believe Nike wouldn't have just paid Avanetti off if he really had the goods on them. At that point it's just 1 more check.
College sports gets harder and harder to care about the more you see this stuff happening not just with UofL but other schools. Back before the Internet this stuff was still going on but you didn't have it in the news day after day. It really has become the face of college basketball. And at the end of the day there's nothing that can be done about it.
As long as college basketball is a big money sport, big money comes with big corruption, it's the way of the world.

The real only relevant thing that was released was the Nike guy saying he had to pay 38/40 eybl (Nike aau) coaches 200k to keep the families of the players happy or something to that effect. Now assuming all the major Nike schools recruited these players that were paid on the Nike eybl circuit, and u gotta believe it wasn’t the 5th man off the bench with the financial demands, then based on the amateur rule they should have been ineligible to play for any college.
But also note that they’ve only released a fraction of what they have, so no telling how far the rabbit hole goes. It just sucks the messenger has no credibility and is an ass hat to boot.

But again, Kenny Payne has a ring from winning a title for the Cards. You were dreaming it while he was out there living it. I mean just tell me what Kenny Payne did to deserve such hate and anger? Has he abused children? Did he beat his wife? Did he commit a crime that hurt another person? Did he attack UofL fans directly with any derogatory language? If the answer to all of the above is no, then you have a case of little brother-itus.
He's an assistant coach being paid more than any assistant in the nation. If it really is a mortal sin to just coach for sUcK, then you need to re-evaluate your morality. I hope he loses every game, but I still love anyone who played ball for the red on that Freedom Hall floor. Gave his all for us fans to have something to cheer about. You may forget, but I never forget.

Agree with this 100%. I was 11 when the Cards won that title and I still remember the buildup and the game and it's my favorite childhood sports memory. I'm not trying to be all precious about it, but KP was part of that and I'm not going to retrospectively hate the guy because he has an opportunity to be the highest paid assistant coach in the country.
