New AD Candidates

There is no list because they don’t have a President. Nor do we want a list. Let the President make that call. We won’t know anything until Spring at the earliest.

At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, this is perhaps the most important hire in the history of Louisville athletics. It could determine where our athletics program goes permanently or at least in my lifetime. And we have a pretty good track record lately of screwing things up.

My criteria for who should NOT be considered as AD or interim is anyone inside what's left of the current department and anyone who's unknown or the product of some sort of anonymous national search. People currently at U of L lack the credibility to fill this job or make the decision to fill it.

The new person (or persons) should be known to and trusted by the U of L community at large esp. the alienated--and growing--portion of our fanbase. It's obvious that that part will determine our economic future and will not come back to U of L with another guy like Tyra. Preferably, it will be someone who has a known and trusted U of L affiliation that goes well beyond the last five years.

The interesting aspect of these decisions--interim and permanent AD(s)--is that it needs to have fast results. Unless the University steps in, our departmental finances are at a point where revenues and expenses need to start balancing almost immediately. In fact, we can't afford for the interim guy to just be a placeholder for six months. That person's gonna be in the middle of ramped up fundraising efforts and possibly some tough decisions. That's far more than just turning off the lights at the end of the day.

It's gonna take something along the lines of a modern day Superman to pull this off, and that would be a 180 from where this department is headed now. I'd like to be more optimistic about that happening...

Also important that the individual knows how to handle the NCAA and not accept their draconian penalties without a fight. Also, it would be important that the person have a record of running a clean athletics program and no history of violations under their watch. Also it would be important that they have a good handle on writing coaches contracts that don’t unnecessarily expose the university and hire coaches that won’t run afoul of the NCAA or be susceptible to quitting on their players.

I’m not sure with the pending NCAA stuff, you don’t just promote Hierd to interim AD, with a chance for promotion to permanent. I’ve heard he’s been involved in quite a few things.

based on commentors on this board, unless they are related to jurich, they will be the worst AD we've ever had and needs to be fired immediately, fire them now! and start the new AD search again.

My first act as AD will be to raise Dani-Busboom Kelly’s salary. Zipp, I’m looking to you to write that check.

I’ll hand it over to her next Thursday when she visits me here in Columbus.

No problem, we currently have an extra $20 to spare. But she deserves it...

I like Dr Lynn since I am a big soccer fan and have Racing FC season tix, but I am not sure if he is AD material. I would prefer someone with AD experience. Better yet AD experience from a school with solid football and basketball tradition.

Where was this list of “needs to be” when VT was appointed?

Most were tickled to death.

Seems clear to me that most of us don’t have one clue about what it takes to be a highly skilled and effective AD. After all, three years ago many thought anybody who could “manage” could do it.

How’s that worked out for us?

It seems to me the absolute FIRST thing to do is…get Dr Lynn, Schnatter, and the Jon Blue type folks back onboard.

Whoever can do that would top my list.

Would they gat good coaches, etc? IDK

But everything we’ve done, all the expansion, the conference moves, has all been about money.

So why shouldn’t the AD be about money? Get the money first.

Especially when your broke.

The new/interim AD is not taking the job that Tyra did. It’s considerably different at this point in time. We had plenty of money in 2017, and we didn’t know how much financial support we would be losing. That’s crystal clear now…
