More Big XII Heartburn for passing on Louisville...

This gives me a chuckle...came out smelling like a rose...from the article:

Oklahoma was not the only school to push for Louisville to join the Big 12 along with West Virginia four years ago. That was a significant miss, one that many inside the league now regret. Part of the hesitation to expand is that no realistic option exists now that would be as valuable as Louisville would’ve been back then

The Big 12 assumed we had no options and they could come back and add us whenever they wanted. Too bad for them, Jurich was in serious negotiations and had Notre Dame backing him.

West Virginia really slit its own throat by not treating us like an ally at the time. They should have pushed for our inclusion. Now they're on an island.

The whole thing couldn't have turned out better for us.

I loathe the Mountaineers and their fan base, however I still contend they should be considered if the ACC ever chooses to further expand. I believe they would be too good a football school to pass on.

As long as expansion is based on growing TV markets primarily, I don't think WVU is much of an option. We have Pittsburgh and 2 other Virginia schools, so we're already in their market. And how big is it? If the next expansion is based solely on quality of football program I agree they'd be an attractive choice of what's available.

Gotta disagree with you. Like Mike said we already have the West Virginia media market with Pitt. For very selfish reasons I would like to see UC get added to the ACC and have ND become a full member. Adding the Cincinnati media market would be significant in that ACC games are not broadcast in the Cinncinnati area now. I don't have to travel to see the Cards play away games when they play in Cincinnati. Cincinnati is a long-time rival in football and basketball. Plus I would never be tempted to go to Morganhole again. It is all about me.

Cincinnati does look more attractive from a market size standpoint. It also gets us a foothold in Big Ten territory. UC does need to continue building their football program, however.

Pitt covers the West Virginia market? Is this fantasy world? Pitt does not always cover it own hometown. WVU has been on TV in Pittsburgh instead of Pitt when both Pitt and WVU were playing home games.

The West Virginia market is WVU and when they aren't on it is SEC and when that falls out, it is the Big Ten and when that falls out it is something else. It is never ACC football.

West Virginia has a population of approx. 1.8 million, and it's in slight decline. Kentucky by comparison has 4.4 million people--hard to believe, more than twice as many.

Here's another interesting stat... Estimated at 2.1 million, the Cincinnati MSA is larger than the entire state of West Virginia. That population center is the largest in Ohio.

I'm not a huge fan of admitting Cincy to the ACC, but there will be a stronger ACC presence in this part of the country with ND, U of L, and Cincy all in the conference. WVU is in such a small state, it's hard to justify their invite. Hell, the tiny state of Connecticut (with UConn) has twice as many people--3.6 milliion...

Chip Brown-(Texas Mouthpiece) speaks on expansion:

Big 12 expansion is not happening, neither is a Big 12 Network - not this year - multiple sources across the league told HornsDigest.com as the Big 12's presidents and chancellors meet in Dallas this week.

If summer releases are about blockbusters, then what everyone is calling potential “Big 12 realignment” when the league’s presidents meet in Dallas the first week in June is shaping up to be the biggest letdown of the summer.

Why?

Expansion is not happening and neither is a Big 12 network - not this year, multiple sources across the Big 12 as well as TV industry sources told HornsDigest.com.

Those that support WVU to The ACC must have forgotten the antics of some of the WVU faithful. Personally I would love to be able to say "West Virginia just doesn't move the needle" or "Just not enough value in WVU"

I'd like to see what those guys have to say now about their predictions and statements from 3 years ago. But then again, I wonder how stupid some of my posts from 2013 would look today!

My guess is expansion is getting the cold shoulder from ESPN which is itself going through tough times.

If you're talking TV market and recruiting base, the Big 12 HAS to look at Memphis. The SEC has raided the Big 12 territory by taking Arkansas, Mizzou and TAMU. The Big 12 needs to fight back. Memphis gives the Big 12 a presence smack in the middle of SEC country, and right in the middle of some pretty fertile recruiting ground.
