I have decided to test the waters and not hire an agent! I am excited to workout this summer for teams and hopefully participate in the NBA Combine! I want it to be clear I have not decided to leave Louisville! #InGodsHands#Blessed

Key point hopes to participate in the combine . Hold back Rick told him dont do the combine all you need to know where Mitchell and Rick are with this is right in the twitter post. Goodbye Mitchell and goodluck!

That's smart on his part. He can do this, get feed back, then either stay in the draft or withdrawl. Very smart on his part IMO.
All that is standard procedure. Evidently Mitchell father is some exec with a major league BB team, so i'm sure his pops knows the ropes inside and out with getting a good feel of where DM will be drafted . I trust his father on this more so than Rick.

No suprise.

90% chance he returns. If he blows it up, he's gone.

Just wait for the bluenecks to bash Coach Pitino when Donovan comes back.
Saying he's holding him back, when its Donovan's decision.

I don't know about 90% DM will go to these workouts and really perform well he's a athlete and these things are geared at looking at performance numbers. Which favor players like him. Especially if he doesn't have to go against the best guards. He is built to look like a workout warrior. And usually for our players they err on staying in the draft.

yep

It aint just Mitchell.

Mitchell, Adel, and Johnson are all testing the waters.
As they should. The potential money is insane. Every single player who is eligible to declare and NOT hire an agent should do so. If they get good honest feedback that's in their favor, then they should go. If they are told they're not ready, then they can withdrawl and go back to college. It's standard procedure and it's smart.

With the new rules every player can do this now so its no harm no foul with Johnson. Adel is another story cause i can see him doing very well in the workouts hes athletic and all it takes is one team to say hey this kid got something that can be developed.

Honestly,

I think Adel leaves. Donovan stays.

I think it's the other way around. Pitino mentioned yesterday he reccommend Mitchell not to play in the combine bc it can only hurt you. And here Mitchell wants to play in the combine.

All we need to know right there.

Id say it's closer to 50/50. NBA loving them some guards with shooting range

Pitino mentioned having a backup plan if Mitchell stays in draft. 5th year guy? Stockman moves to shooting guard?

All I could see now is that Q moves to shooting guard and Perry starts. That's about all we would have in guards that play the 1 or the 2. McMahon will always be a situational player.

Let's hope Rick is right. ;)

Playing in the combine would give one an opportunity to improve on free throw shooting, layups, dunks and 3 point shooting.

He's a top 20-25 pick on every board I've seen. Now, if he wants to come back because he loves school and his education I believe he will be back for the red. But, if his main goal is being a better basketball player then the best thing for him to do if these projections hold is go to the draft.

As a rival, I'm praying he does not come back because I believe he really is NBA ready right now. I know you all want him back, because him coming back makes you all a title contender...not because you do not think he is ready. Some kids just want to go pro and the first good sign they get they will leap (Cliff Alexander, Daniel Orton, Terrence Jennings, and many more). Some kids love school like the rare Tyler Hansborough.

If he is projected top 20-25(or a sure fire first round pick), I'd say its more like 75-25 he goes. With a dad that works for the Mets, he has a Dad that understands the pro process. And, if there's money on the table his dad will know not to leave it there now and risk losing it because a college degree will always be there tomorrow.

Do these players not see what has happened with guys like Terry Rozier and Montrezl Harrell? Both of those guys were drafted in the first round but both are role players and not starters. I know Harrell has seen more PT this season but it's due to some other guy being injured.

Mitchell should talk with Rozier about leaving after two seasons. If it's about money then being drafted in the first round is good enough. Terry needed the money while Donovan not so much. If it's about being a "player" in the league I don't think Mitchell is there yet. All he has to do is see Terry sitting on the bench in his first years in the league. Is he ready to accept That?

As for Adel he has even a less chance of getting major minutes in the NBA. These young players all want to be stars in the league, not averaging 10 minutes a game to receive a paycheck. If either player leaves college this spring it will be a mistake. They should wait until after their junior seasons.

Rozier is getting a lot more pt this year too. Averaging almost 18 minutes a game. It's just tough being behind one of the most exciting players in the league in IT4
