Always a fun topic, even though there are posters that do seem to get offended whenever this is discussed. We all knew this team had new pieces, and with more options it could take Mack time to figure out what he likes.

Of course matchups determine minutes distribution, as do practice habits.

Everybody knows they are not coach. More than likely there won't be any massive changes barring injury or other unfortunate circumstance.

That said...

Do you see any changes, subtle or major?

As a casual observer....

Will PG position may be open competition moving forward? Looks like the Cards have 3/4 guys that can play it, but do any of them play it well enough? I've read some places DJ could have won the starting job if he wasn't injured. While that's great to hear for his outlook, he got hurt. So who knows?

Nwora and McMahon play too many minutes.

Malik doesnt play enough.
Id have Malik be the first sub for Dwayne. Play the two bigs together for a few minutes before bringing in Sam.

Its obvious David will get more minutes, but how much ?

You have 3 point guards, because Ryan plays too many minutes.
Make Kimble a 2 guard so David and Darius Perry split the 1.

Play the hulk in the first half. He needs more time in case of foul trouble by the bigs.

I would like to see Williamson and Johnson get more run in these next two games. Going to need these guys.

Mack obviously knows his team better... but it feels like McMahon is getting too many minutes for what he offers. Hurts me to say that because I like what he has to offer but he is limited. The guard play overall is just limited right now.

Agree 100%. Williamson & Johnson need serious minutes. Love Sutton, but his stat line tells the story. His minutes need to be cut some, he’s been an offensive liability big-time.

Sutton has been logging too many minutes for far too long now. He deserves more breathers. He logged only 31 minutes against TT but he's usually 38+. Nwora & Ryan each played 36 minutes against TT.

Mack did the typical coaching decision. He took Sutton out when he got 2 fouls. Maybe deservingly so, Mack really trusts his seniors. I think fresh plays too many minutes. After all he’s a grad transfer and won’t be here next year. Mack needs to find out if he’s going to get more production out of Perry or Kimble and then give the other mins to DJ. Perry probably has more upside than Kimble but Kimble is probably more consistent than Perry.

Yes. IMO our fouls also come with the out-of-whack game play that TT invited us into from the get go. When you are wacky on both ends of the court....L's will happen. I laughed when they showed CCM scratching his head. Perfect pic, because I believe we were all scratching our heads by that point.

I think EKU is a perfect game to see how DJ can handle the point. They aren’t very good, but run a full court press. A good way of seeing how he can handle it now, and also giving him some good game experience against a tough style.

Under that scenario, I think it’s better to find out who should be the primary ball handler between Perry, Kimble or McMahon. If DJ does a good job against a bad team like EKU, it doesn’t really tell you anything. DJ needs to focus on D. When his D catches up, he should get more PT.

Well I see it as that you won’t be able to tell anything from EKU as they’re so bad. I think a freshman needs more minutes against that style to get acclimated to the college game.

We are running out of time before ACC play, only 2 cup cake games left and better to see the freshman now before throwing them to the wolves of the ACC

They’re far from perfect now and need to solidify the starting lineup and the rotation before we get into ACC play. He should have already done experimentation, besides that’s where you’ll see the cream of the crop, against formidable opposition in conference play, not cupcakes.

The only issue with that is that David really hasn’t had a chance to be in an experimentation game as he’s slowly worked his way back in once the competition got tougher. He didn’t get the 2 exhibitions or the early blowout games.
