Minnesota 41 Purdue 10

Is this concerning to anyone? I have been an advocate of Brohm to UL, but maybe look around some and not be laser focused on JB? Also, he did lose to Eastern Michigan at home. That game counted as much as we want to act like it didn't.
It won't concern some people, but it should. When everybody was gangbusters about bringing Petrino back for 2.0 there should have been some reservations then. Some people never learn. it's all or bust. Even if Purdue loses out and Vince doesn't make a move for Jeff this fan base will explode. I predict a small explosion for just mentioning it in this post.

Morgantown, let me help you with your rural twang, it's "sumbitch" one word. lol Young teams win games they have no business winning and lose some they have no business losing. Unless it's our young team, then we consistently have 70 yard TD runs up the middle where Famurewa plays all night long. Give up more than 50 points in more games, it's easily a school record.

Cards had more penalties than points for most of the game last night. That was the worst they looked all year. The Bama game might be their best performance, seriously.

Purdue players seemed a little “uninspired”, maybe a little “discouraged” for some reason.

Watched that game today. Snowing all afternoon. Minnesota at home just wanted it more. Brohm went for it deep in his own territory down 10-3 in the first half and did not get it, but the defense held Minnesota to a field goal. Purdue trailed just 13-3 at the half, but it was clear that the offense was night firing in the cold, snowy, windy conditions.

Right after halftime, the Purdue QB fumbled while fighting for extra yards, and Minnesota scooped and scored to push out to a 20-3 lead, and the rout was on. Purdue players may not have had any fuel left in the tank today after emotional high profile games against Ohio State, Michigan State and Iowa the last 3 games.

I think all the talk of Brohm leaving for Louisville having a negative effect on the Purdue team is a valid theory. It has to have some effect. I also agree that this is just the second year of his rebuild at Purdue and you can’t expect that team to be world beaters at this stage. They do, however, show a lot of promise. All that said, I’d say the odds of Brohm being on UL’s sideline next year is about 85% right now. And, if not Brohm, there are several enticing possibilities, including Venables. In any case, I’m more stoked about next years team than this year’s next game.

How so? Since the talk started, Purdue has beat OSU and Iowa. If you think today is a product of the talk, your wrong. Today is the same stuff that has happened in every loss this year.

I also concur that Brohm to UofL could be a factor, but having a young team and playing in that weather were also factors in Purdue getting blown out. And while I would prefer Jeff Brohm as the next head coach at UofL, I certainly do not subscribe to the Brohm or Bist line of thinking. No fan base should think that way about any potential hire. There’s no sense in setting yourself up for potential disappointment and deflating any fanfare for whoever takes the job. Clearly, Jeff and the rest of his family are Cardinals fans, but the timing might not be right for him to make the move, or he might be happy enough at PU to stay.

There’s another thread labeled “coaching candidates” where I gave a list of guys I think could succeed at UofL. One thing is for sure, UofL will have a much more competent staff next year.

Well, after the OSU beat down the talk of Brohm to Louisville ramped up dramatically thus increasing the fear factor of the team losing their coach exponentially. And, if you are a Purdue grad (I am a UL grad) and you are incorrectly using “your” instead of “you’re” we need not discuss any further.

I honestly don't pay attention to Grammer on discussion boards and twitter. Not like im getting grade or anything... but I actually changed my major so I no longer attend Purdue. Might go back there for my Master of Accounting though. Kind of want to see if I can get into an ivy league for kicks and gigs though.

Brohm now has a losing record (9-10) in his head coaching career against UNranked Power Five teams.

Inexplicably, he has an almost identical record percentage-wise against the ranked teams he's played (4-5). He's played those teams with the same staff of coaches and roster of players. And I haven't checked, but he's probably played a higher percentage of those ranked teams on the road.

The question is whether that justifies an $18 million gamble...

Agree and i cant see this regime paying brohm at least 5-6million a year to come here. I honestly see them going the coordinator route.

Zipp, my first reaction to that data is that the record vs ranked teams is probably better than that of all but 10 active coaches. Second, the record against unranked teams is roughly average for a P5 coach.

Third, I would guess his vector is pretty good.

First, I think zipp is asking a legitimate question and, second, I also think Guardman makes a legitimate point in this conversation. These two responses is the definition of our conundrum. This is why I believe a real search over the next week to 10 days is a very valid method to finding our next coach. I still like B. Veneables at Clemson if he’d be interested. I like southern coaches with that style of recruiting. WTH that’s just me and I don’t have anything against Jeff Brohm and if (IF) he comes home I’ll support him the same way I’ve done all of our other coaches in the past. Until, of course, they proved they didn’t deserve my support, i.e. Kragthorpe. And, by the way, I support a 3 year window for coaches unless they violate NCAA rules or have a moral violation.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

The roster is never the same, year to year.
You can not overlook the fact that sticking with Bobby is a huge gamble. I have lost confidence that he can turn it around. More miserable football will lead to more lost ticket sales, and that leads to a deficit, too. The $18 million isn’t in one chunk, either. Brohm may not be best for the program (I like the guy at UAB) but no one will be cheap, not even retaining Bobby. It’s not a choice of $18 MM or nothing. It’s a choice between 18MM and some unknown figure, as in what does the new coach mean for ticket sales and how much will he cost?

Purdue is not built currently for bad weather games because they don't have a good enough running game. Quarterback has issues in cold weather...Mich St and here.

This is a bigger factor than people think, Purdue is in the Big Tens weakest division. Northwestern just won the division at 5-4. There are no powerhouses on that side until Nebraska gets rolling again which is coming. As long as Brohm can recruit like he is now he will contend every year. Louisville has a legit Powerhouse team in Clemson, unless Dabo leaves that is a steep hill to climb.

Good luck to you. Just some advice, anytime you are writing or speaking in a public forum you should be careful with your grammar. Poor grammar, spelling and delivery can undermine your message.

Don’t forget Wisconsin. They’ll
Be back with a vengeance.

World of hurt why? That thread the other day was hilarious on your board.
Because you just got your brains beat in at Minnesota and Louisville just pulled the trigger on BP...proving that they're more than capable of buying out Petrino's balance and pursuing Jeff Brohm!!! He's gone, pal!

With the stench of him leaving being strongest around the Bucket game, get ready to hand the Bucket back, asshole

Brohm's play calling yesterday was overly conservative and he definitely had some head scratchers. I think he's a good (not great...yet) coach who still has a lot to learn about how to properly manage tight games where his team's not in yet in a groove and has 0 momentum. He's been too inconsistent at Purdue thus far for me to get too worked up if he stays or goes for the money UL will try to throw at him.

Regardless of what happens, both teams are ponying up enough to find a good coach somewhere. Purdue's a better destination than most on here want to admit with the support of the BoT and AD. Anything's better than Petrino at this point for you.

Best of luck to both teams.
