Louisville kid, solid family, great athlete, couldn't cut it academically at Purdue. Wonder if he might finish up with his old coach at Louisville? Looks like we're gonna have plenty of receivers, but one more couldn't hurt.

If he couldn’t cut it academically at Purdue, why do you think he would cut it at UofL? These guys aren’t majoring in chemical engineering, and though Purdue is a fine school the undergrad rigor isn’t exactly Harvard.

Purdue has higher test score and grade point average requirements. That doesn't necessarily mean that actual course work is more difficult.

Purdue football student athletes have to meet the same academic requirements as UofL football student athletes. Those requirements are set by the NCAA. Schools can impose additional requirements, but very few do (and Purdue is not one of those schools that do).

All of that is actually beside the point, because Milton Wright actually met all of Purdue’s academic requirements to earn an athletic scholarship and play there for one season. He just failed to meet the minimum requirements while he was already at Purdue.

Whether or not he’s eligible to play college football beginning in 2023 would depend on what he’s been doing since he left Purdue. If he’s been taking classes and has earned at least 48 credit hours with the minimum required GPA (at least a 2.0), then he could pretty much be eligible to play anywhere next September.

Milton went to CAL here in Louisville and he was well-prepared for college when he graduated, as my oldest grandson had classes with him. If you go to class, and use the counselor and tutoring resources at Purdue, or at most any University; it is reasonable to expect continuation of eligibility. Everyone knows that balancing football and college studies are challenging for underclassmen regardless of whether it is at Purdue or at UL ….. it is generally all about reaching out for help once the student recognizes they are struggling. Jeff will know the situation, and I am confident he will be in the best position to determine whether he is a good fit here.

Vanderbilt like almost all Universities relaxed academic requirements for athletes about 8 years ago. We need to quit using that argument that some schools have tougher academic requirements than other schools because they don’t any longer.

No clue if he got things straightened out but if he did that would be another piece to the puzzle. A legit receiver that knows the offense. Learning curve gets smaller.

233 far too many people totally underestimate the academic vitality of OUR University of Louisville. UofL offers academic assistance to ALL students regardless of being a regular student or student-athlete. And we successfully graduate students in every class that go out into the world and compete with graduates of schools from all over the USA.

Wright did not play in last season's Music City Bowl against Tennessee due to eligibility issues from the fall. He skipped spring football to focus on academics, but was unable to become eligible. This appears more a personal issue rather than Purdue requirements.

Purdue in basically an engineering school, similar to Speed at UofL (I spent my time there). The curriculum is ridiculously difficult and you’re not accepted unless you’re up to snuff academically. Similar to Vandy.
Purdue engineering may be, but I doubt Milton is an engineer. If it was that rigorous, they wouldn’t have the huge enrollment they do.

My understanding is that Duke and Miami are two of the most difficult schools to obtain non-athletic admission, right alongside Vanderbilt and Stanford.

I Would refer to GOCDS‘’s post on this thread for the most accurate statement regarding college education.

At least at the undergrad level, your education is largely what you make of it. I’ve always said that the true test of a university is the change in the student, from matriculation to graduation, and how much he/she grows academically during that time. It’s easy to turn out superstars when you only accept superstars. When you take a broad range of people and many of them become successful, it says more about the role of the university.

He is done with football. On our Purdue boards, rumor is that he went to work for his father's company and makes good money and is set up well. We were hoping he would return as well, but unfortunately he seems to be done with football altogether from what I understand.

If this is true I fully understand it.

If the father has a successful business that MW can take over one day, why does he need “college”? Why take the beating and rigors of D1 FB if your future is elsewhere?

College isn’t for everyone And, with the shortage of skilled tradesmen, in the very near future an electrician, plumber, auto mechanic or carpenter is going to make more than 90% of today’s computer geek. Or PE, Recreation or Communications majors.

JCPS should bring back the old Arhens Trade HS.

Actually, for the very first time in my lifetime, I see a trend where college education is being questioned as the best route for all young HS graduates. Totally agree with Trade School options.

We just hired a young HS Senior finishing up in a night school program where he was learning to TIG weld. We started him out at $18.00 per hour with health benefits. He works in our Calvert City KY branch during the day, and finishes his HS classes at night ……. we are starting to see more applicants applying for jobs like this.

I’m a fan of Mike Rowe (“Dirty Jobs” TV series), who encourages vo-tech training in lieu of college. He makes a lot of sense, imo.
I was an instructor at a local CC after I retired and have many students who are now making $100K+. Plumbing and electrical work have an abundance of high paying openings that I wish I had the opportunity to explore in my youth. Back in the day you basically had to be born into the trade.

All good posts! While some cultural and societal changes are declining, this direction where young people are recognizing the trades as valued career opportunities that do not require college education.

I agree with Zipp about how the arrogance and greed in our Colleges and Universities are responsible for the unparalleled cost of a degree and decline in the value of so many degrees.

If he doesn't go to work for his father 🤪 he should be ours if Jeff wants to mess with him again. If he plays here he could still work part-time for his Dad 🤪

Think the world of Milton Wright but he’s not gonna make plummer get the ball out in less than 18 seconds lol

Thrilled with Ryan Walters. It will be amusing to watch you guys eventually turn on brohm though

The mechanics of any QB can be addressed when a staff has the experience of working with QBs; something Jeff Brohm has demonstrated countless times.

Jake Plummer has all of the necessary tools to fit the Brohm offensive system.

I seem to recall a number of slow, white QBs in Brohm's offensive system. Not sure how/why that would change this season...
