Will be interesting to see how they do this year.

They have a loaded recruiting class, Penny Hardaway talking title, and UofL transfer Lance Thomas in the fold. I wonder what kind of role Lance will be having there.

So that's where Thomas ended up. Penny has a lot of talent on his team but I'd like to see how his coaching ability translates to D1 college basketball. He certainly is creating a buzz for Memphis basketball and seems to be hitting the right notes for their fans so far.

Initially I thought Lance Thomas had a huge upside. But, as time went on I became less a fan of his game and potential. Him leaving was a win-win, it freed up scholarship space for us and allowed him a fresh start. With the highly rated recruits Penny has lined up I’ll be surprised if he plays a very big role. Wish him well.

They have a lot of talent. What they also have is:
  • a second year coach with no experience coaching in the NCAAT
  • a roster full of players in which NONE of them have every played in the NCAAT
I think it is a stretch for a group of total novices to win the entire thing.

Realistically though with today’s youth, these kids don’t want coaching, they just want to do their own thing and play. It’s not coaching any more it’s managing. I think even Mack plays into it with paintball games, pool parties, cool entrances... It’s how you relate to these kids now instead of being an authoritarian. The discipline comes in the amount of playing time. I’m cool with it.

Not now and never will. When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

These young-ins wilt when you pour on milk!!! There is no 'I' in TEAM.

There is something to be said that discipline instilled develops character, and characters lack the will to accept discipline instilled...so they shrink when the going gets tough.

The more social mores change, the more the meaning of discipline stays the same. Some adapt and some just go to crap. Coaches need to be keen managers of characters and how to instill character with integrity....not fear, but a true value system.

That works only if your coaches have character and integrity. That applies to all people in a position of leadership starting with being a parent.

Go Cards. Beat the Dekes.
