I was in Memphis today and I was listening to talk radio and they had one of the Tennessee politicians on the radio. They said they are going to push for a federal investigation into the NCAA and try to find out why some schools get punished and some schools don’t. That would be pretty interesting if this happens because there is a lot questions that need to be answered.

This would be very interesting. It could be the demise of the NCAA as we know it.

The NCAA consist of member institutions.

Sports will always need a governing body.

That being said they do need to answer the question of arbitrary investigations and punishments.

Also need to answer why rupp's titles werent vacated along with the wins while using point shavers.

The NCAA is the universities. The problem is their handling of their rules. Look at the FBI deal it is business as usual. It will take another year or 2 for them to deal with this.

There is a clear bias, but god lord Memphis should get hammered. Penny a booster that paid for a player is violation. Then they hired Penny a booster who ran a AAU program who ended up recruiting AAU players. We now all know how money moves through the AAU program to players. A booster that ran an AAU program hired as head coach. All that money that ran through his AAU program could be a violation because he was an established booster prior to be hired. Yeah Memphis you got nothing to worry about.

Please don't take offense to this comment, nor am I saying that you are personally rooting for the NCAA's demise. But, I don't understand why people keep rooting for its demise or why this is a great concept. There needs to be a governing body or there will be even more chaos than there is now. We don't need to get rid of the NCAA, we just need them to make better/consistent decisions.

Well Morgantown, we need you to do your thing and fire 'em SOBs. Because it's not just us "fans". It's some pretty influential College Basketball folks calling for change.

I don’t want to get rid of the NCAA I just want to clean it up. It is obvious to everyone that there is preferential treatment to some schools. I would love to find out the reason for this so I am all for an investigation.

I’d rather my tax dollars go towards something more pressing.

Now if a wealthy group got together and brought a civil case against the NCAA, I’d be all for that investigation. But I would think our government has something better to send their agents to investigate.

It depends if there is money under the table that is keeping certain programs from being penalized. It could be Nike paying 100’s of millions of dollars to protect their brand by not having Nike schools on probation. It could be a large group of Universities putting their money together to guarantee their security.
If so it would be very profitable for the Feds to go after them. UNC paid 17 million to stay out of trouble.

Yeah, but again that’s speculation. The Adidas issue wasn’t about college basketball, it started with one target, some others got roped in, then it came down to the college teams.

The Nike schools could be paying it under the table from the public, but if the feds get their taxes and it’s legal, not much they can do. I personally just believe Nike is smarter how they do things, Adidas and their people were acting like morons.

Their structuring prevents consistent ruling and decisions. The body is voluntary and changes on a routine basis. Their interpretation of rules changes due to the rotation of decision makers. Precedence seems to have no bearing in decision making.
