Emmert's quote to the U.S. Senate this week...

"If implemented, these laws would give some schools an unfair recruiting advantage and open the door to sponsorship arrangements being used as a recruiting inducement. This would create a huge imbalance among schools and could lead to corruption in the recruiting process," Emmert said. "We may need Congress' support in helping maintain uniform standards in college sports."

Saw this on TOS. Good topic so thought I’d post over here. Emmert is either ignorant or just covering up for his cash cow schools. Makes me sick.

In other words, it’s ok for Alabama, Notre Dame, Duke, Kansas, UNC, etc to do this, but heaven forbid Cleveland State or Grambling if the try to get a piece of the action.

Sadly the schools you mentioned will still get the biggest piece of the pie. And their piece will be huge.

It’s interesting how dirt poor, small populated states like Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky(minus Louisville Metro), or small private schools like Duke, Notre Dame, Stanford, etc yield so much power in the college sports world.

Wish one senator would have responded by saying" you mean the corruption would be worse than it has been? And the big schools would cheat even more? "

There is competitive balance in the majority of sports mainly because how the championships are determined. If the college basketball championship was like football it would be same teams every year like football. Keep in mind basketball had to evolve to this point.

Football is a completely different animal. Like some have said the NCAA has very little control in football. Conferences and Bowl games have too much power and influence. The SEC and Big Ten are going to outspend everyone else and it won’t even be close.

There will always be programs that have more resources but everyone should have the opportunity to compete for titles. Not just a select few which is what is happening in football. I can’t stand when “college football experts”
say get better when the entire system is built to protect the blue bloods in football.

Emmert is slime. He knows what he's saying is a bunch of lies. I think he underestimates his audience's knowledge.
He doesn't care because he got rich off this and continues to get richer each year. He makes over 2.5 MILLION a year to look the other way for those who bring in the money. He will protect them at all cost to include his 'plea' to congress.
