Mack Press Conference

Just guessing without seeing or hearing, but I imagine Mack isn't giving too much energy or thought to any reporters and/or their questions. He probably has other things on his mind, so he may actually be telling the truth if he denied remembering making prior statements.

I saw the clip. It was a fair question from Sullivan based on comments Mack made after the Pitt game. The question revolved around Mack saying that he was struggling to figure out how to motivate the team. Mack sounded like a snarky jerk. Own what you said.

And say what you want about Sullivan but he’s the only media member that isn’t afraid of ruffling the coach’s feathers. Most of the TV, radio and website guys depend on access in order to fill content (and frankly many started as fans before becoming “media”) so they tread very lightly. Sullivan is more in the mold of old school big city writer - so he’s kind of a crusty jerk.

Mack’s answer is what I’d expect from some unsophisticated high school coach, not a guy making $4M/year. In a sense the question afforded Mack the opportunity to really redeem himself and bring some positive spin to his very depressing comments after the Pitt game. Instead it sounded like a prickly guy who doesn’t really have a handle on things. Very disappointing.

I believe media relations fail to crack the top 20 things Mack cares about.

Fans aren't going to really hear answers that are gonna make things okay anyway. Koz is right UofL fans aren't feeling this local media either.

All of this will work itself out, with or without any eye catching media Q&A.

I believe results tell the story better than words.

You got the crusty jerk part right and who wants to deal with a crusty jerk?

I deal with crusty jerks all the time. And if he wants to present himself like a top shelf coach part of the deal is effectively dealing with the media and communicating effectively with your team, the media and the fans.

Sullivan's question was legitimate and fair, and should have been answered by Mack in a professional manner, hard stop! This in a nutshell is the huge problem with Mack, and other coaches like him. Here you are making $4M as the head coach, but you don't want to answer any and all questions. I don't care if the question is moronic or not, this is a huge part of your job. If you we can't ask and you can't answer the questions, then what are we doing here. It infuriates me when coaches act like this, you don't get to make all this money, with all the perks, and not have to answer for your job decisions and program direction. Yet again, I've been saying since the middle of his 1st year, Mack absolutely has not a clue the true nature, scope and visibility of this UofL position and what it entails, nor does he want to know, JMO...

Good lord i hope the next coach knows how much this fanbase has changed over the decades. Not too mention he better be the greatest thing since slice bread. Mack is truly disliked when the fanbase is sticking up for a local media hack. Whom has never had U of L's best interest in his articles. Even when things are good he pooped on it WOW!

Nailed it!
Sullivan has been a hack since day one.

Who’s defending Sullivan? I said it was a fair and legitimate question. And one that fans like myself would love to hear an answer to. And to your gaslighting fanbase comment, I’d be happy to compare notes on longevity of being a basketball and football and women’s basketball season ticket holder if you’d like. I actually can remember when we had coaches who weren’t so thin-skinned that they could coherently answer difficult questions.

I'd sit with him and fart on him while doing it. My gas is turbulent too.

EDIT for clarity - I'd fart on Sullivan, not Hank. Hank is alright.

I’m perfectly fine with someone farting on Sullivan. I’m also fine with Sullivan or anyone else asking legitimate questions of our highly paid coaches.

If things were humming along smoothly this year, Sullivan would be throwing dirt at it. The guy is just a crusty old rube. Even his stories on UofLs volleyball team, when he finally started to acknowledge them, were snarky and condescending. F-him….

the same sorry so called journalist whom sues U of L every chance for FOIA because they refuse to cooperate with him. But he refuses to do the same with UK issues.
I agree with this, but Mack is also acting like a broken man under pressure that he has never experienced before. You can be a jerk as a coach when you are winning. Not so much when the season has been a train wreck. A lot of truth of both sides of this debate. Sullivan is an ass but the response and timing were poor.

The exchanges on this post expose the very same sentiment in this community that will insure UL will never regain the level of success that we experienced with Denny and Rick.

Anyone who has a measure of understanding as to how this University lost Ramsey as President, Jurich as AD and Pitino as HC ……should be able to testify as to how the CJ played a significant role in the condition this University finds itself.

There were certainly sufficient self induced mistakes made by the aforementioned, but their departure was optional at the time. Once the CJ used their influence to undermine Ramsey, it opened the door to dismantling all of the momentum this school had going forward, and there was no protection for Tom Jurich.

Now there are those within our own fan base that look to Tim Sullivan for direction and explanation, when all he and those others in media are taking advantage of this opportunity to further undermine those who are trying to work through the problem.

It is so much easier to criticize than it is to create.

Umm ok. Yes, a reporter paraphrasing a quote the coach made and then asking him to extrapolate on that is
undermining the university.

I think we will attain Denny and Rick levels of success when we have a coach that wins and does it without violations. Also it’s important that season ticket holders continue to be donors.

Anyone who doesn’t engage in revisionist history knows that there were big forces at play that led to the ousting of the aforementioned. The CJ, with its declining relevance, was about #26 on that list.
