Just survive somehow.
For three quarters tonight, it looked like Clemson was going to get sweet revenge for the thumping Louisville put on them during the regular season. For a not-so-wonderDURRful night, the worst officiating I've seen since the NFL playoffs and and an affirmation of the old saying that goes
"defense wins games", let's call double technical's on this entire board and any other board you can think of and go to:
FIVE THINGS ABOUT THIS GAME
5) "Three shots for a dollar, step right up." I'll don my carnival barker straw hat and motion for Asia Durr to walk over to the booth. Easy money for me. The winner of the ACC Player of the Year had a night worthy of Wake Forest's fourth best reserve. Yes, 24 points, but accomplished with 11-30 shooting and 2-7 three-point skills. Yes, I get it -- sometimes players have bad nights. Let's hope this is "Nite-nite"'s last one for a very long time. And, no free throw attempts? Of course, Asia didn't get fouled all-night, Sonya. Didn't you watch the game? OK, let's go to officiating next...
4) Great pay, easy hours, no responsibilities. I got a feeling that's the "come-on" when they're trying to hire ACC WBB officials. Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and that blind guitar player in the movie "Roadhouse" could have called a better game. Clemson's Keniece Purvis should transfer here and start at running back -- she has this unique style of running over people while possessing the ball and never getting called for it. How can you call a foul on someone who has just had three people pile on them -- plus throw punches -- while trying to retain a loose ball. Hey, I want some of what they're drinking, those striped-shirted sillies. Make it a double. (No, not double technical, Carla. Dang!)
3) Thank goodness there are four quarters. For as bad as Louisville looked for 30 minutes, the final ten were the saving grace. Credit Bionca Dunham for a big effort, hand Sam Fuehring the "tough as nails" trophy and give Dana Evans the first-place medal in the 100-foot sprint. 21-7 Cards advantage in the fourth. Even Satterfield's pigskin pledges would accept a quarter like that.
2) Dadgummit, they only play two reserves! That was Clemson's head coach Amanda Butler's "mic'ed up", fire-up speech during a timeout. I'd rather win with seven (actually eight, dear Amanda) then try 11 out there and lose like you did. Congratulations on ACC Coach of the Year, Amanda. The ACC good ol' boy and girl network at work again. Enjoy and admire that trophy when you're sitting home tomorrow afternoon while Louisville is playing. With seven players, dadgummit!
1) Just survive somehow. Tonight Louisville figured out how to survive and the key factor was defense. Clemson went 3-13 from the floor in the crucial fourth quarter. Maybe they were watching Asia Durr clips? I'd sure like to see 40 minutes of that final ten minutes defense Louisville displayed tonight when they play NC State tomorrow. And a referee crew that understand the rule book and follows it. Yeah, I know...I'm asking a lot here. But, hope springs eternal.
