So now, 4 of the 5 starters are Mack recruits that he brought in as Freshman. And Carlik was his recruit. So with Malik out, the Pitino era is non-existent on this team for the first time since 2001.

Can’t take much the game. We’re without 3 guys and Evansville is trash.
Did like the energy. Also, loved seeing all the young guys get minutes, didn’t see much of that last year

They can definitely play well together, but Johnson was in foul trouble all evening. Weakness is going to be size, but I like this team. I do wish that we’d play some up tempo, but I’m not the coach.
I really can’t say much about weaknesses, as we just overmatched an awful team.
My worry is bench depth. Especially now with Minland, Nickelberry, and Malik out.
I’m interested in how the post will look against the bigger teams in the ACC. The games against Purdue and Kentucky will be a good measuring stick for our big guys.
I was surprised how well Salinski and Traynor played they look like they will make some contributions this year.
I watched Traynor last winter go against a 6’11” dude from Martin Co, he reminded me of a more athletic Herbert Crook. I love his upside.
So Traynor can come in and block some shots and rebound, he is that type of guy yes?

Traynor was a nice surprise from the outset. Played within himself. Withers has the bulk to rebound bigger than his height. Johnson was total disappointment. With Mineland injured Johnson was the only one who spell at the point except he played like he did nothing but read his press clippings in the off season.
Definitely like what I am seeing from the freshmen. As others have said though it was a bad Evansville team. I think we’ll know more after seton hall.
