Cards just 3 of 13 from the field to start this one, but they are giving Stanford fits with the on-ball pressure. Cards up 9-6.

Great defensive play by Olivia Cochran to prevent an easy bucket off the Stanford inbounds play! Prevented Stanford from going up by 4 to end the first quarter.

We must of posted the thread at the same time but not a good first quarter for the Cards. It was a really weird lineup I don’t know what CJW is trying to do. Is he sitting the starters so they won’t get worn out at the end of the game. Is he sitting them out to send a message. Are they not practicing hard and haven’t earned the playing time. Whatever it has been a really weird lineup the past couple of games.

Was surprised to see Juffermans in very early. Perhaps it was a reward for playing well in practice. She didn’t do anything on offense, but she did play good post defense and also grabbed two rebounds.

Stanford had lots of problems in their last game against Notre Dame’s pressure defense. UofL does seem to be very intentional in applying pressure. Stanford did a decent job in that first quarter of beating it for layups, but the pressure is working better in the second quarter.

Isla has been as effective as Olivia. I think Olivia is a bit ill (she went off the court to the back and was throwing up). Thus, the question is - why play her if she is sick?

Neither team can get in rhythm offensively our defense is better than theirs. We are struggling on our own it is not the Stanford defense.

Yes, we’ve been getting open shots, but we just haven’t been hitting many of them. Taj is now on fire!

I don’t know why but we really don’t position ourselves well to get offensive rebounds. I would like to see more of Berry she is going to be really good.

Here it is the 4th quarter and once again the Cards lose any semblance of a basketball IQ. Coach Walz has to be losing it with the same damn thing every game.

I was wondering if he was doing too much substituting in the 4th quarter. I know it is just as frustrating for him as it is for the fans.

With Russell, probably just Walz knowing what he has with her, and he thought he’d try to play the younger players a lot more in this one. It’s significant that, when the game got tight in the fourth quarter, he put Merissah in to replace Cochran.

I expect Isla will begin taking more of Elif’s minutes as we get further into the end of the regular season. Elif played 12 minutes but failed to get a rebound, but contributed two TOs. Isla got 2 rebounds in only 8 minutes and did not commit a TO. Both of these 2 young ladies give 100% effort at every opportunity, but it looks like Isla is just quicker and more comfortable inside the paint.

Its a combination of all of that. I think CJW played Cochran in spurts because apparently she has the flu or is ill, but I also think he is trying to save her so she's there in the 4th quarter. She fouled out again today. Berry might have played a little more in the first half if she hadn't picked up 2 fouls. Whatever CJW is doing ends up basically with the same issue, closing out the game in the 4th quarter. I still contend thats on the guard play. Harris pick up a late moving pick foul. She should know better, shes not a FR.
