One poster has asked about the source of the data I have reported today. I have used Sportico. Here is their statement from their website:
"Sportico’s real-time database tracks the official profit and loss (P&L) statements of public FBS university athletic departments.
Our numbers duplicate those that schools submit annually through the NCAA’s Membership Financial Report System (MFRS), which we’ve obtained through numerous open records requests. As such, our database provides the most comprehensive and interactive examination into the finances of major college athletics.
MFRS reports offer detailed breakdowns of athletic department revenues and expenses over the course of a school’s fiscal year, which typically runs from July 1 through June 30."
Here is the breakdown of "operating revenue" categories for Louisville as reported to the NCAA, according to Sportico, for the 2022-2023 year:
$29,141,287: Media Rights
$28,701,669 Royalties, Licensing, Advertising, Sponsorships
$25,710,879 Ticket Sales
$24,378,455 Donations
$3,266,515 Indirect Institutional Support
$3,235,212 Programs, Novelties, Parking, Concessions
$3,214,150 NCAA Distributions
$1,953,789 Direct Funds from Institution
$911,288 Athletics Restricted Endowments & Investments Income
$900,000 Students Fees
$250,870 Away Game Guarantees
$9,085,180 Other Operating Revenue
These above amounts add to $130,749,294.
However, Sportico also reports "total operating revenue" for Louisville of $142,806,809.
So ... there's a disconnect of $12,057,515, which I am unable to explain.
