With the availability of all these fifth year transfers I guess Rick is blazing a new trail

Instead of getting freshman and grooming them for three years to see if they pan out

He's going after proven commodity with experience

Sounds cool

Nevermind the 4 guys coming in as freshmen next year (and maybe five if Maverick comes). But ok...

Uh, he's not adding all the available 5th year SR's, he's looking at adding one, maybe two. He doesn't have a single SR on the roster for next year at this time.

Count how many FR and SOPH he will have on the roster next year.

Sounds like it's you that blazing.

Ladies ladies please so sensitive

I was only trying to say it may be a good plan, supplement with 5th year guys we obviously can't get one n dones

So maybe we do one better, we get done n ones to supplement when someone may not work out or trf's or whatever

geez

Yeah ... I like it.

Proven kids. Who know how to work in the classroom. Who have ability. Who want to play at the highest level of D-1 hoops.

Much better ...

And nicely done on the done and ones tag.

The biggest change over the years with Pitino is his philosophy went from being very offensive minded to very defensive minded. He was way out in front of the curve when the 3 pt line was introduced. His time at the Knicks really helped him at UK. He found shooters and taught them defense. At Louisville Dean,Garcia were his best shooters. He really hasn't had multiple guys on the same team that could shoot it consistenly. What he has developed is a heck of a defense which has taken advantage of the lack of good interior play and poor shooting in college basketball.

I think you are going to see him adapt to being more offensive minded. Taking a 5th year guy or two this year makes sense. He needs guys that can come in right away. He needs proven shooters at the DiV 1 level. Notre Dame looked like Pitino's UK teams. They could shoot it from every where with an active 5. They only difference is UK played much better defense. His challenge is finding guys that can shoot it but understand the team game and are willing passers. He has already proven he can win with less he has to get back to his offensive roots the defense will come.

Interesting topic. You guys have hit on some things that might be the beginnings of a change in recruiting philosophy by CP and his staff.

There is an inherent danger that comes with going after too many oad types if you are building a program that is L1C4,a program that is trying to coach lesser known talents, less constructed talents to becoming a team.Getting the right oad type kid to complement those other kids is taxing.

It's a challenge that can often become a crapshoot because 18 year olds are hard to figure sometimes and are not often polished shooters.Going after 5th year guys that have solidified their reps in the college game might be far less risky.Back filling need on a year to year basis might be the better way.Continued recruiting of 3-4 star players yearly would continue.

Of course, this is all speculative right now.Is CP going in a different direction from here out with recruiting?Maybe he is or maybe it's an anomoly.Time will tell.
