I went and watched JJ and Bardstown play Martin County last night, I was curious as to how talented he is and wanted to see for myself. He’s a very lean 6’8”, but I am sure that he will get much stronger in college. He has a very smooth jump shot, he is a sf imo. He reminded me a lot of Herbert Crook when he was in high school. I think he’ll have a good career at Louisville after he improves his strength. Martin County was a deceiving looking team, they had one tall guy around 6’9”, the rest of them looked like they took a break from farming to play. Martin County was tough and could play, they missed a three at the end that would’ve sent it to overtime.

On a side note about the KOB tournament, Richie Farmer was there. He has two sons, or maybe a son and nephew that play for Clay county. I watched half of that game, Trinity was up at half I believe.

It's already known and stated by all the coaches and anybody within basketball circles that JJ is a high developmental type player. That he has alot of development to get done before he is even thought of being a complete player. They call him a low risk high reward kid.

Already known? So you believe whatever you hear? I am giving my opinion of him, I didn’t say that I was expecting more than what I saw.

Rocky - Thanks for posting this. I'm way behind on potential future Cards. Is JJ signed, or is he a guy the Cards are after?

Everyone is gonna think I'm absolutely batshit crazy for this analysis but I'm honest. Next season if everyone that is able to return does return and Jay Scrubb actually don's the Cardinal uniform we could be more dangerous than we are this season. Let me explain my reasoning behind this dangerously bold prediction.
First of all Scrubb is an absolute game changing animal. He' s efficient , uber athletic, possesses unlimited upside which being as good as he already is isn't even fair. Seriously UofL hasn't had a player impact the game like he will since.... I'm not sure we've ever had a player like this guy. Williams will be a senior and an absolute beast at the 5. Williamson in year 2 will play his way into a potential lottery pick. Perry will be a senior. Along with the rest of this years class. Aiden, Nickelberry, red shirt freshman Withers, Johnson, Slazinsky, and the rest of 2020 class. Which will definitely include the ultra quick athletic facilitator we so badly lack this season. Factor all this in and our ceiling could be rediculous. Scrubb is the X factor. In telling everybody. This guy ain't no 5 star 17 year old highschooler. He is a freaking man. 20-21 years old , future fully developed body that's is as athletically gifted as anyone who has ever played the game. Rediculosely accurate. Year 1 in juco he shot high 50' s % overall and like 47% from 3. Ouch. Great rebounder, ball handler, intelligent and all around natural basketball player. Withers will be an animal and the hulk will be absurdly violent. I'm overly confident about this.

Scrubb we’ll be as good as advertised that’s a fact. David Johnson is our guard of the future it wouldn’t shock me if he works his way into the starting role this season let alone next season. The offense operates so smoothly with him running it. He also can penetrate and get into the lane and finish unlike Fresh and Perry. Way too early starting 5 next season DJ Perry Williamson Scrubb and Malik.

You just don’t replace production like we are losing.

Nwora, McMahon, Enoch, and Sutton are our 4 leading scorers and they’ll all be gone next year. You won’t replace Nwora’s scoring. Sutton’s intangibles are just something that doesn’t show up in every player. You lose Kimble too, but that’s not going to be huge. But that’s 5 rotation players guaranteed to leave. So

Even if Sam and Malik both come back, that’s still hard to replace an entire rotation and producers. We will be talented for sure, but I don’t think Scrubb can jump in and be able to replicate Nwora/Sutton.

You still worry about a true point guard as Perry and DJ will be good but not what you would call more dangerous.

I’d say that best case?

Williams
Scrubb
Williamson
Perry
Johnson

Igehion
Nickleberry

That’s probably your top 7. I think improvement in the backcourt will be expected, but that still doesn’t look like a very deep or scary team. A decent team. But if Malik, Sam, Scrubb decide to go pro we could be in for a long year. (Don’t expect all 3 but you never know)

Hope I’m wrong but his numbers are screaming “Project”. I listened to the Trinity game and he got off to a quick start and then only ended up with 10 points. This is probably Trinity’s weakest team in the last 8-10 years or more. They play a ton of freshman. If you can’t dominate in that setting it’s not a good sign. Won’t be surprised if he’s a redshirt candidate.

Man Scrubb is set. Good enough to replace Nwora' s game. I honestly believe that if Williams played 30 + min. A game his #'s would be plenty for the 5 then whatever Hulk contributed is a bonus. We will have Halen Terry and he will instantly make our back court better. Also you forgot about Withers , Slazinsky, And incoming Davis will contribute early. He's good bro. Sutton will be missed but I'm still optimistic. Plus who knows who else Mack will bring in. Tons of grad transfers yearly .
