Jaylen Johnson

I get you on IQ, but on heart? I disagree there sir.

Other than Pitt at Pitt, this team has ZERO idea how to STEP on an opponents throat and impose their will...That's a Passive Trait and Weakness...That's a LACK of Heart!!!

There's effort to win, but NOT an Attitude of Refuse to Lose!!!

Not trying to get into a semantics debate but I'd say heart has more to do with overcoming adversity and having the will and, finding a way to win even when the odds are against you.

I think you're referencing killer instinct, and you may be right with this group but, I've always found that the teams with the greatest "killer instinct" are really good offensively - which this group isn't. The margin of victory at Pitt happened because shots kept falling and Pitt gave up.

Making shots makes everything else fall in to place. Suddenly 'you have heart'. Suddenly, 'you're composed and mature'. The Cards do win with their D. They frustrate most teams, unlike anyone else. You could see Syracuse uncertain how to score other than jack up shots from outside. Our problem is we were shooting poorly, especially early in the game. We also went flat late in the 1st half, with turnovers, poor shots.

When we are shooting well and executing on offense we can beat anybody and we can crush lesser teams. When we aren't shooting well, we can still win because of our D but those games are closer.

I think this team has plenty of 'heart'.

BTW, Jaylen had a very good game that may not be noticed by everyone. He was a beast on the boards and made some nice moves inside. Good game. Mahmoud was also very good. Actually all the bigs played pretty well but a few turnovers on inside passing.

All in all, if Mitchell starts out hot instead of cold, I think we would have clobbered Syracuse last night. As it was, we still won.

If Ray had one ounce of Jaylen's toughness, he'd be a first round draft pick.

That being said, him losing the ball trying to dribble was a 5 point swing.
I watched Ray closely last night after posters recent comments about his play. Although his stats weren't great and he should have dunked an offensive rebound he grabbed, his intensity and sense of immediacy was greater on defense and on the boards than it has been recently. He appeared to work hard at following CRP's instructions to smother SU's bigs even out the 3pt line.

I don't think it's a lack of heart that kept our team from recognizing that Don caught fire and they should try to get him the ball.He probably didn't touch it 4 straight down the court when he was in the midst of taking it over, right before he fouled out. That's a lack of understanding the game and a bit, dare I say, selfishness.
