Jay Wright retiring?

They are hiring Fordham’s head coach. Had one year as a head coach. Was previously an Asst at Nova.
Maybe he just wants to be on the Payne Train and is joining our staff as the last assistant. L Yes!
A huge surprise to hear this. Hope Jay simply wants to retire to enjoy life and that it isn't something more serious.
Looks like there really aren't any sure fire head coaching hires anymore. That and coaches at successful programs are staying put more often.
I think you will see more and more of this especially from the older coaches. Roster and player management is a nightmare in this new era.
Look at some of these transfers no way a coach saw it coming or could control it from happening.

i'd think their current assistants would be pissed they didn't get promoted. who goes out on top and doesnt leave the reins to their assistant?
KP is 55. So something happens between the ages of 55 and 60 that makes one not willing to put up with the ”portal and NIL legal cheating crap”?

Serious response - I don't know Jay Wright so I could be wrong but he strikes me as a guy who just wants to coach basketball, and not have to deal with all these NIL stuff and all the babysitting that will come with it. Where Kenny Payne seems to thrive on networking, knowing everyone who matters and being the cool guy in the room (not a knock, this is why we hired him), Jay Wright just wants to coach basketball and at age 60 a tiger is unlikely to change his stripes.
Yep. My response to Redfist was meant to point out that he seemed to be assigning attributes to one coach based on age but not the other. Your response is spot on and really has nothing to do with age.
I believe with KP the difference is he hasn't been a HC like Jay had been for 20 years. Jay had already won a few titles, was basically the top program in the region for a long time, got to see a lot of players grow and make the NBA, etc.
For KP he is getting a late start. Without going into all that, I believe this is the difference. KP is trying to turn around a program as a legacy. Jay was already sitting on the top of the mountain.
