The dilution of the bowl season continues. Again, I don’t fault the players for making this decision but I don’t fault the fans either for not going to the game.

Sign of the times...Josh Sweat and Derwin James sitting out the Independence Bowl for FSU...

Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson has given every indication that he will play in the Cardinals’ matchup with Mississippi State in the TaxSlayer Bowl. However, Tuesday, a second Louisville defender announced that he will not suit up.

Defensive lineman James Hearns tweeted that he will sit out the bowl game to rehab and “make sure I’m in the best shape to pursue my professional career.”

He must have received some positive feedback from the NFL. Didn't see him sitting out coming. Best of luck to him. Next man up.

I agree. I am done with these bowl games. They mean absolutely zero. But then again, I am wondering if any games means much anymore. It has become nothing but $$$$Dollars. Close to being burned out with all of it...after a long, long time of support.

Try to look at this way. Bowl eligibility allows a team additional practice time. That beats the team doing nothing for a month. It's also important for a program to play in bowl games for a variety of reasons. It's a win/win in my book.

This.

It' the LAST game the football team will play.
Would some of you Cards fans rather go back to the Kragdud years of NO BOWLS

The players love Jaire and Hearns, but make no mistake, theyre happier to get the playing
time, now that those two are sitting out.

I dont care if the entire first string on offense and defense sits out, if UofL football
is on TV, I'm watching.

Last game for the pros and many players will be sitting out. Its called situation and circumstances.
Get over it.......

With the natural progression of things......soon TV will no longer be interested in televising these games as sponsors will not want to pony up big $$$'s for crappy 2nd string content.....and why should they or the fans? When it becomes only about the money.....and the money dries up....what then?

I will not watch bowls when the better players on the team become 'I'm sitting out for.....bla bla bla reason'.

I already do not watch the NFL anyway....so it would be real easy to forgo CFB too.....but that is just me. And maybe a few of you too.

It is kinda like going to the varsity local HS game and finding out the teams are playing the jv's instead.....who pays for that? I wouldn't.

I don't like this trend, but understand it. I also understand it is easy to criticize the decisions of others that affect them financially but not you.

A little surprised by Hearns, I expected Lamar to sit TBH and same with Jaire (who since coming back and getting healthy has been an absolute game-changer - look at all the stats of the defense as a whole pre-Jaire and post-Jaire). Apparently with Hearns he just had surgery, so if that's true then I totally get it. he's a 5th rounder, doesn't want to be knocked out completely because he's still healing.

MSU has almost no leftover coaching staff for this game, lots of GA's etc stepping up. Managing a starting roster plus backups is a lot - think about it. You've got 11 starters on offense, defense, and SP. That's 33 starters, plus their backups. This is a lot different than basketball where it's 5 on 5 and one guy can take over a game. My guess is that MSU's green staff is hectically reviewing film and trying to prepare, so this is potentially a train wreck for MSU. I hope we get to see none of our guys get hurt and we see Puma Pass in the 4th quarter as a lead-in to next year's opener at Alabama. I'll take any win - believe me - but that's the optimal result here.

If the fans don't GO to the game in sufficient numbers doesn't that end up costing the school money?

The school will use whatever bowl money is left, to offset cost.
You didn't have entire sellouts for home games.
Also Senior days are pathetically attended by Louisville fans.
Game attendance is down across every sport, collegiate and professional.

Much more comfortable to watch at home or on your mobile device...yes TV ratings are down...but live streaming is way up...more and more are watching on their androids, iPhone, iPad or tablets

Hearns has apparently accepted an invitation to play in the 2018 East-West Shrine game on Jan. 20, 2018, played in St. Petersburg, FL.
