It's my understanding that Deng Adel was never admitted to the NBA Combine...

...this weekend, which was a possibility as an alternate. If you're someone worried about his NBA Draft status as well, that should be good news for you.

Obviously, Jaylen Johnson was never invited to the Combine, but he's reportedly going pro anyway. I've never heard Adel was that committed to leaving...

It would be a bigger blunder than Jaylen, Samardo, Terrence Jennings and Nanu combined if Adel were to leave at this point since scouts love his potential but want to see him develop more. He can come back and be the best player on a decent team next year and be a top 20 pick in 2018. If he were to leave now he would be sealing his fate with the NBA and be relegated to playing overseas.

Not getting invited to the combine was simply the last straw. I have no idea why he hasn't officially said he was coming back yet.

FWIW Adel was really tight first with Mango and then DM. Neither of these guys are back. He's also very close to his family who lives in Australia. He can make good money playing professionally in Australia in front of his family. Don't know how much that factors into things.

I'm a big proponent of the top flight guys (like Fox, Monk, Tatum) going overseas to collect a check instead of biding their time in college. However Adel is the classic example of someone who will greatly benefit from the college exposure. He has the raw tools to greatly improve his professional stock. If he were to go overseas now he will forever bury himself there and lose out in the upside an NBA contract has.

Deng is a top 3 alternate i believe.
If there is a no show, he'll take their place.

Deng just might be ready for a professional career.
Hope he comes back.

I think going to the Combine and getting some "outside" evaluation is good for a player. Not only do they hear about the areas they need to work on to be successful at the professional level, they also rehear what "coach" has been telling them everyday in practice.

If he hasnt announced by the Alstork visit on the 17th, I'll be a bit worried. Because Pitino says if Adel comes back, he's not using the last scholarship most likely, which means that Alstork wouldn't have to visit.

100% agree. Adel going overseas to play now is forfeiting any real opportunity he has to play in the NBA.

I understand a guy like Johnson making that decision, but not Adel. He should have more confidence in what he may be able to accomplish on the upside...

is the NBA really his personal desire . I've never heard him really say that in an interview. Just maybe e wants to play professionally but overseas. I think his skill set as it is right now would enable to do that on a high level their. few 100,000 could e all he wants. Who knows

Since he is working out for NBA teams, I would assume that is his goal

Thats only because the NBA evaluation is all their is for professional baskeball teams to include. the overseas teams that when figuring out who they may want to give a contract too also. And Deng i'm sure feels he is a NBA player ut in reality he knows it's a long shot. At least this year. But i think he wants to go regardless wherever and make money.

You could fit what I know about the NBA into a matchbox. BUT I've heard on more than one occasion people say that every teenager in the world with that skillset wants to play in the NBA. That's a little bit of an absolute, but probably a lot more true than not considering the international exposure that the NBA has...

That's why potentially every kid who plays college basketball could be a OAD. Every kid who is any good at basketball dreams of the NBA.

I would assume someone like Adel's goal is the NBA. He was a 5 star recruit on certain sites and the NBA seems to be intrigued by his potential. I would also assume that nearly every kid wants to play in the NBA. Nobody leaves school with the express purpose of going overseas...even guys like Jaylen Johnson want to play in the NBA but in his case his chance of playing in the NBA is so low that coming back to school isn't going to get him any closer. Adel, however could come back and if he plays like he did the last month of the season last year can nearly guarantee himself a 1st round selection next year.

FYI Deng is going to work out for the Chicago Bulls. Thyis kid wants to play professionally he is not coming back unless he just stinks it up.

Im pretty sure if you put your name in the nba draft before the deadline May 24th, you work out for many teams. They invite you to work out. That's called testing the waters. What's he gonna do, put his name in and not work out?

Im not saying one way or the other but to think him working out means he's gone is dumb.

Well its obvious you really don't understand the process not every team invites every player who puts their name in the draft to a work out. Teams select certain players they are interested in seeing up close Says that Deng has teams looking at his raw abilty. All it takes is one good workout and a slight promise.

Just like you guys didn't want to eleive Donavan was leaving. It's a new ballgame with these kids these days. They just like everyone else in this day and age are looking for a quick buck. Everyone is caught up in this lottery multi million dollar contract crap. Well most players know they will never sniff that type of money or the NBA. But most know they can get paid playing in other leagues for money beats a 9-5 jo anyday for alot of them. getting decent money to do what they enjoy playing BB.
And i happen to know Jeff Brooks a local player that played at Penn st, Guess what he i s doing very well financially playing in Italy. Should see where he has bought a home in Louisville at. And he has nowhere near Dengs abilty.

Ok. Yeah Im sure i dont know what Im talking about. Says the one who thinks he's gone because he's going to workout. Funny thing is you didnt post this when he was working out for Oklahoma City 2 weeks ago, did you? But now since he's going to workout for Chicago he's just automatically gone.

Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts! Makes me no difference one way or the other what he does really not my life. it's just entertainment for me. I love to see people do whats best for themselves making money cause i sure ain't feeding him .

I was just sayin he's already worked out for OKC awhile back and nothing was said then

I knew it then just didn't say it at the time. the Wright St kid is for Deng also cause Rick knew Mitch wasn't coming back. And he sure didn't want to e caught without someone that could score if Deng left also. I don't know if you heard Mitchs interview this past week he was specifically asked about Deng. He stated he really didn't know were Dengs mind set with staying in draft was.

The one constant i've learned about being a Cardinal BB fan when in these situations usually the coin flip is always against us. Hope differently cause losing Deng spells a very weak team.

i'm sure its really $$$$$ that is his desire, as is with every single other person in this world. i don't buy that it's anyone's desire to play against the best, it's to get paid to play against the best that is everyone's desire
