When the two best teams you play all year are in the elite 8 and final 4, you're bound to lose. UK's lackluster competition all season is to blame for this loss. They didn't see teams like Notre Dame and Wisconsin and as it turns out, they were not prepared for teams like those two. I was telling my UK friends and family members when the tournament started that they better hope the Irish lose early and they play Arizona instead of Wisconsin. I said the Cats just hasn't seen teams that are talented but also intelligent.
But, they were convinced nobody was going to beat them and I said I know because you're used to beating average to decent teams all season. If they would have played Duke earlier in the season and lost. Maybe another loss against LSU in conference play, they would have probably won tonight. But maybe not. I think Wisconsin has been the best team all year and I think they will handle Duke.
I think this loss once and for all proves how average Calipari is as a coach. With all the NBA players that he has had since becoming the UK coach, he has one title and that's because they played Kansas instead of North Carolina who had to play without Kendall Marshall who got injured in the sweet 16 game.
Now we wait to see how many of their players leave for the NBA. That will be the UK fans calling card for celebration.
