As time goes on, I'm really beginning to like this guy. Not that I didn't like the hire or anything like that, just had no feeling for who the person was. He seems like a humble, hardworking every day kind of guy (despite being a multi millionaire), and simply genuinely likeable. Same goes for Christi. She sent out a funny tweet last night saying coach was eating at Jeff Rubys while she was getting Chic Fil A with 3 kids, so he owed her one.

Such a refreshing departure from the arrogant, elitist, blue blooded attitude coming out of that office since 2001.

I really hope Coach Mack succeeds. Not just on a fan level, but on a personal level as well. The guy and his family are really likeable.

I've been following him on twitter since he was hired, and you're right Kratz. He posted a moment where he found a note from his 11 year old girl. Seems well grounded and genuine. I have no idea how well he'll do on the court for the Cards, but thus far he's been a smash hit off the court in my eyes.

He posted the back side of the letter this morning. Nice stuff.

I don't miss Pitino's off-the-court stuff which was a regular sideshow. It didn't get to me like it did some here evidently because I must have a high tolerance for it.

But I won't jump on the Mack train unless he turns up clean by the FBI and gets us back into the NCAA tourney next year. The first is assumed. The second is a bar he needs to clear for fans and donors to return; otherwise, they'll still be sitting on their hands...

they've been sitting on their hands in the Yum since it opened. well some are reading the paper during the game so i guess that's something.

either way he seems like an OK guy. i guess fans like the whole twitter thing (i don't follow it) so that's cool i guess for those folks.

he's got a lot on his shoulders so i hope it works out well. i'll give him some time since UofL is in a world of shit but once the dust settles he's going to have to perform at least in a top 15-20 capacity.

I like Mack as an individual but I also liked Pitino and these two are totally different. I think Mack is a good coach and will do well at least I hope so and only time will tell. Most of the people posting negative things about Pitino aren’t even Louisville fans I don’t know why they spend so much time here.

Why be so negative?
Why can't you look toward the future, there is a bright future if you would just embrace it, heck zipp, you are cool, but be more opened minded.

The problem with that POV is it confuses analysis with fan support and optimism. I can try to evaluate without letting my rooting interests get in the way. "Negative" is confused with objectivity.

I'll also add that there's less reason to be optimistic now than there has been since joining the ACC. The people in charge know less, they have little or no track record, and there's less money coming in. Hope is all you have, and there's no reason to expect positive results. I don't recall that little working in our favor since our years outside the P5.

I HOPE I'm wrong...

Zipp I believe you are wrong this time. I believe we actually have more to be optimistic about now because with the hiring of Coach Mack and his staff we are now officially shoveling ourselves out of the mire that Rick Pitino buried us in. And, hopefully, we are beginnng to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Respect comes wth positive action and the hiring of Coach Mack has reinstated the respect of our fellow ACC members in my opinion. Yes, we have a long way to go but I believe we’ll be in the NCAA tourney next year. But I cannot predict what will happen at the end of the FBI investigation because we don’t have all of the information. I’m pretty sure that CCM is clean from an FBI perspective because I don’t believe he would have been hired in the first place if not. But then again, this is simply my opinion.

Of all the hires Mack is most likely to succeed, with( “succeed” being relative,) as any of them.

He has at least worked in the field (experience) and had very good results.

I want him to be wildly successful. And clean.

All there is to be optimistic about with Mack is hope. And I think it's gonna be a lot tougher slog forward than people think.

As fickle as fans are, I'm likely to be a guy defending him eventually. Guarantee that there will be people here next season already wanting his head unless he has an amazing start which nobody has a right to expect. He deserves and will likely get ample time to put his stamp on U of L basketball. I'm not predicting in any way that will be positive or negative...

Hope, zipp is a good thing. Especially after what we’ve been through as UofL fans. It’s kinda like our baseball program with Dan McDonnell as our coach. Regardless of what’s happening at the exact moment we always have hope. . . . . . And that’s a good thing.

Except a guy like DM has a tremendous track record dating back years. He's priceless. I submit you have a lot more to ground your optimism with baseball than simply hope...

The only new hire I like and have hope for is CCM the rest of the hires are inexperienced. I still want to see Tyra go out and raise the same amount of money Jurich raised. Tyra is new at this and he came in as a good ole boy as far as I'm concerned. I hope the hire for our President was good but she is new to this as well.
We also have to remember the new BOT to many sUcK people there to feel positive about that yet. This could be a successful turnover or a catastrophic fail. Only time will tell but I am hoping if the wheels start coming off we move quickly to replace the failing parts.

that's really all anyone can do.

he could blow it up and be the next Denny, or he could Kragthorpe it up and be a complete failure; or really anywhere in between.

i'd say early on success is just keeping the shit off UofL. something former employees just couldn't do.
