just by looking at the box score and knowing nothing about the game, the coaches can boast of these silver linings...

we were 33.3% from beyond the arc they 36.4% so we were just as good as them basically.
we had 8 OREB they had 6. so we dominated the offensive boards.
we committed only 16 fouls, they 23. so we played smarter.
lands and traynor are great shooters going 7-10 combined so play them 35 minutes each.
we shot 72% from the charity stripe meaning our players can be counted on in late game situations.

ya gotta start somewhere folks and there's where you start

Sorry, but no.

The 1st half they competed, the 2nd half they quit. It was a dunk contest. We threw some passes literally right to them.

It's a trainwreck.

I think it's time to shake up the starting lineup and have a completely different look out there.

Numbers don’t tell the whole story. Team seemed to quit in the second half which became an Arky dunk fest!

I hate to say it again but this group is soft. They are constantly on the edge of falling apart. Today it was just a matter of time before the wheels came off.

They will get smoked tomorrow as well. Texas Tech will defend them and eventually Louisville will fold because they will get frustrated.

This roster is awful.

Payne not bring in another point guard was coaching malpractice.

Yeah I don't think it was a choice.

I don't think he believed Hercy Miller was going to be the answer.

Now, as Cycle pointed out in another thread, Kenny's mistake might have been trying to get a PG he couldn't get, and then came up empty.

I find it hard to believe that there wasn’t a serviceable guard from a non-P5 school that we could get given the one-time transfer rule.

There may have been . But he may have pursued higher shelf guys and by the time they said no it may have been too late to get a lower end guard.

Players I would bring back for this next season: Ellis (if there’s any way he comes back, which it doesn’t sound like he will), James, Traynor, Basili, Ree, Withers, and Huntley-Hatfield. If Ellis does not come back, KP has to get at least three guards from the portal. Hope to get Miranda while also adding Williams and Glenn. I don’t know wheeler’s outlook for next year but I definitely think he could still have a shot at this level but Curry is probably gone no matter what. There just needs to be multiple creators at the guard spot in this program. No other way to put it

Basili and Miller spell minutes for the guards who come in that (hopefully) are near elite status

I'd also want Lands back after seeing a little of what he can do tonight. There's definitely potential there.

I’m against making excuses, but look at the optics of it all from over the summer. We were coming off a 13-19 season, and brought in a completely new staff, which probably drew players away from seriously considering coming here as they did not know what they would be walking into. The catch though? $$$$$$. That would have done so much for our roster this season if that was in play. I will stand pat on the notion that NIL needs to be introduced in the recruiting pitch until KP starts getting some borderline five stars or permanent five stars without the promise of NIL money.

Think about this from the recruit or transfer’s eyes. If I’m looking at this program right now, all 4 coaches on staff have been successful as players or been apart of successful teams with players who made it to the NBA so that’s appealing. However, the record and losing games is not. So that begins to draw me away from going there. But with a potential NIL deal in place that will bring me a lot of money to go there and enhance the program due to my abilities and status as a five star or highly regarded transfer? Yeah, I’ll go give it a shot. I’m getting paid at the end of the day. Money speaks to us young people. Not going to land AJ Johnson with no promises regarding NIL over a school that’s in a great city who can afford to give a fat load of money in exchange for commitment. I think it kind of stinks that I see the reality of this all as a fan. Again, I do respect KP’s approach on recruiting and it has gotten us some good looks from recruits such as Flowers, Knox, Bryant and Cadeau. But those guys are surely thinking about the NIL money that they can make at the schools they are considering. Cannot afford to keep losing out on these recruitments. Have to change course one way or the other. There is my rant

Here is my biggest fear with Payne. His style or philosophy is NBA based. Long athletic players that can do it all. How many college teams have you ever seen that can do it all? It is a unicorn.

This team physically is what he wants. They are long and some what athletic (no where near what he wants). The problem is they can’t do anything well from basketball standpoint. On top of that they aren’t really over the top competitive. Game over for this group.

Even if he kills it in recruiting he isn’t going to find 5 guys that have those skills that immediately translates to college basketball.

It may work but it will not work with this group. He is going to have to make them run set plays. They don’t not have to skill to run his system. Whatever that is.

It really is hard to believe. Both those guards from St Peter's transferred somewhere. I'd take either one. Hell,I'd take a walk on that has shown ability to be a floor general.
Right now everybody just stands and wonders if Ellis might pass it. Every other player that puts it on the floor is subject to losing the ball.

I think it was a combo he chased the diamonds and got burnt and then not much left if anything after he found out he got led on.

Do you guys think he looked at the roster and thought the guards in the fold were good enough? I don't think that's what he was thinking.

So what do you all think happened?

Just trying to follow what you are saying. Do you think he told the kid Akot that ended up at WKU sorry we have Hercy Miller we don't want you?

I don't have any idea, but no way did he think the roster was OK.
This experiment with El playing point was doomed from day one imo. I don't even need a star at point, just give me somebody that can get the rest of the guys involved.
And like I said last night, it would help if guys weren't just parked in spots.

I guess the bigger question is why he couldn’t close the deal on a serviceable guard. I’d think the NIL opportunities alone would be enough to get a decent guard from someone in the MAC and ASUN.

If you're wanting brisket and while you're looking for it they got a sale on ground beef, if you wait in line for brisket and they tell you that you can't have any and then try to go get ground beef it might be sold out too.

And I think that's what happened. But I am guessing.

My bigger question. Why did some of these guys come back when it looks like they don't want to be here? They all had options. If Cross can get to UMASS all these dudes had options.

I'm starting to wonder if we would have just been better off with an entirely new roster with no holdovers. Because if dudes don't want to be here set them free. While we would like Kenny to help them want to be here, sometimes it's just best to move on.

We are just living through bizarre sports times.

nick coffee was saying KP won't talk NIL to any recruit and if they bring it up he says he won't talk abotu it. kids want to get paid and he's not talkign about what they want to hear.. basically, we'll be looking for 3* and lower 4* star kids who have no other nil opportunities is what it's sounding like

Had to be plenty of mid majors all over the country looking to get into a bigger limelight situation like playing in the ACC.
I'm truly befuddled by it all.
