First of all hi everyone
My last 2 years has been something you wouldn't believe if I told you but I'm starting to settle in to a little better routine
I always thought med school and residency were the most challenging/rewarding things I'd ever do
I was so wrong
Raising a 4 year old and a 2 year old with special needs is far and away tougher and unquestionably more rewarding
But I've had no free time at all and that's why you haven't seen me
A lot of you probably don't even recognize my name
I used to be a frequent poster and really enjoyed it over here
So anyway team related stuff
I never get too upset about losses in December and January and in turn never get too hight about wins
The team always looks completely different in late February with differing rotations different team chemistry and different presses/more fine tuned defense
But I've got to admit it's not horrible to be sitting here in mid January with wins over duke UK and IU
Witchita state Purdue were really good wins
Losses to the number one team (where we looked better than they did) to uva who is our kryptonite and at notre dame where we never win don't seem so bad
Especially when you can see this team had tremendous room for growth and improvement
They need to learn to play with a lead (I hope we don't get up by 20 on anyone unless it's late in the game )
They haven't scratched the surface of where they can be
I think starting Anas and Ray is invaluable as they seem to have much higher ceilings at those positions
Bringing Mangok and Jaylen off the bench is a luxury as they are starter quality but I believe the other two have much higher ceilings and room to grow
Q has been solid and calming on this team
Mitchell has been much more aggressive opening up the deep ball for him
King is slowly starting to get more comfortable and relaxed and when he does watch out
Adel has been solid all around and shown flashes of what he can be
Almost every one of these guys is no where near their potential which is an exciting prospect
We will be battle tested in march
We may have another ugly loss (unc sometimes is a bad match up for us but with the way IU and UK play fast paced style I think we will be ready)
You always have a game where you lay an egg and the other team brings it so I'm expecting some of those and you learn from them
Sometimes a butt whooping is a good thing it brings you back to earth
But I love this team
I hear people talking about next year and certainly we don't lose much at all and bring in 4 guys who are long athletic shooters that can play multiple positions and have the luxury of coming along at their own pace
But this year with our length athleticism guys that can shoot guys that can get in the lane shot blockers etc I don't see any reason that with a good draw and some luck that we couldn't be in the final 4
I love the chemistry of the team
I think they have tremendous potential
I'm excited to see where the season takes us
And after last year I just can't wait until march!
