When is Petrino or whoever is calling the plays going to get it through their heads to stop hanging out in the backfield? The one thing BC has done is get into the backfield very quickly, but we keep running playaction and getting sacked or pressured. Get the ball out quickly with slants or outs. Roll the QB out or run a damn screen for once.

I know the OL is not very good but one would think Petrino knows this as well. Get the fast players the ball quicker and in open space. Instead the QB is hanging out in the backfield looking like a sitting duck.

Yeah our offensive line is overmatched against this BC front 7 although they played decent against FSU last week at times

He has called those quick playaction calls, but the o-line is getting spooked with the looks jumping early alot.

Again, Jackson is up for another sack with dumb playcalling. And it finally bites us with the blocked punt. I just don't understand it. It's so clear that BC is going to get to the QB if he's just standing back there on 3 step drops. Petrino has to give them something else to think about or they're going to set a record for sacks in a game.

Just a few years ago many of us here were ringing our hands with Coach Watson's playcalling, but from what I've seen this season, It's not better at all with the supposed genius of Bobby Petrino. He has to see BC in the backfield all game and do something different.

No man it's great......we're just young. You can just see us ready to explode for 50 on somebody

Dude only 16 negative yardage plays today! What more you want? This is a well oiled machine

Look I know our Oline is atrocious but we had 4 false starts 2 by the center, one by Thomas and one by TE. Part of the issue is youth in that Jackson does not know how to read the defense. In HS he was able to rely on his escapability. How many times did he just hand off to a RB when the D was already there. what made TB great was his ability to check off. LJ is relying on what CBP sees from the sideline not what he sees across the line.

Well, of course we aren't coaches and don't know as much as Petrino. I'm sure he has reasons for the things he does. Things that pop into my head when I'm watching the struggles is what can be done to make up for shortcomings. It is obvious that the OL is terrible and we have no time. Ok, what can you do? I remember Petrino's first year here in 1998 as Smith's OC. Redman was in the shotgun and they got rid of the ball really quickly and had short quick throws. They didn't need a lot of time. Redman usually didn't take a slow developing 7 step drop with all the options 10-20 yards down field, a lot of the time he'd catch the ball and immediately complete a short 5-7 yard pass.

Since the line can't block why not get rid of it with more short completions and stop with the deep drops and surveying the whole field and always looking for 10-20 yard completions. Half the time will be sacks that kill your drive. Our line can't give that much time, why do we keep using a passing strategy that calls for a lot of time?

Also, we couldn't run the ball up the middle at all. All the positive runs were speed players to the edge (Jackson and Bonnafon). When it got to the end and UofL got the ball with about 3-4 minutes to kill and was bummed to see that UofL gave up on those plays and went with the slow backs straight up the middle. We only needed 2 first downs. Radcliff, he just appears slower and slower to me and I have no confidence in him running in the middle anymore. Anyway, I believe UofL fumbled and gave BC their 10th lifeline and chance to win the game even though they couldn't move the ball at all they still could have won. If you can't run it and you only need a couple of first downs I don't get why they bang their head against the wall and use a running attack which is almost guaranteed to be a 3 and out.

Well LJ is no Redman as far as actual QBing goes but he is faster and a great athlete.....so there's that

Stop and think about what you just typed. LJ isn't Redman...therefor let's give him long, slow developing deep drops with play action with a line that can't block instead of lot's of short quick routes that allow him to get rid of it quickly. If the line can't block him not being Redman has nothing to do with it. If the line can't block the quicker he can get rid of it the better.

If it's 3rd and 3 what's better a 7 step drop and a 30 yard home run try down the sideline that is incomplete (punt) or just a snap and throw to a guy who goes 4 yards (1st down)? I'm just saying. If the line is a sieve than the quicker and shorter the routes the better.

Anyway, you seem to equate LJ not being Redman as a REASON to emphasize the longer routes that require longer times in the pockets.

No I emphasize it because I prefer a pro style offense with QBs like Redman and not this bs zone read crap.
