Well, of course we aren't coaches and don't know as much as Petrino. I'm sure he has reasons for the things he does. Things that pop into my head when I'm watching the struggles is what can be done to make up for shortcomings. It is obvious that the OL is terrible and we have no time. Ok, what can you do? I remember Petrino's first year here in 1998 as Smith's OC. Redman was in the shotgun and they got rid of the ball really quickly and had short quick throws. They didn't need a lot of time. Redman usually didn't take a slow developing 7 step drop with all the options 10-20 yards down field, a lot of the time he'd catch the ball and immediately complete a short 5-7 yard pass.
Since the line can't block why not get rid of it with more short completions and stop with the deep drops and surveying the whole field and always looking for 10-20 yard completions. Half the time will be sacks that kill your drive. Our line can't give that much time, why do we keep using a passing strategy that calls for a lot of time?
Also, we couldn't run the ball up the middle at all. All the positive runs were speed players to the edge (Jackson and Bonnafon). When it got to the end and UofL got the ball with about 3-4 minutes to kill and was bummed to see that UofL gave up on those plays and went with the slow backs straight up the middle. We only needed 2 first downs. Radcliff, he just appears slower and slower to me and I have no confidence in him running in the middle anymore. Anyway, I believe UofL fumbled and gave BC their 10th lifeline and chance to win the game even though they couldn't move the ball at all they still could have won. If you can't run it and you only need a couple of first downs I don't get why they bang their head against the wall and use a running attack which is almost guaranteed to be a 3 and out.
