I am done

True that. I understand fans’ frustrations, but I don’t understand that they expect a quick change. Not happening…
Used to be on board with this but not anymore. He's got to go after this year. Just a matter of time before the team folds and players start hitting the portal.. That will speed things up. More and more people are getting pissed. People on the call in shows are starting to get loud also. Unless he wins about 10 in a row he gone..

Too little time has passed, and there is too much money and politics involved--I'll add institutional liberalism since we're talking U of L--to fire Payne this year. Those combined issues are insurmountable IMO, and it's why Heird gave Payne unequivocal support yesterday...

At the end of the season, I expect UL to provide Kenny with an Administrative position at the University, much like what was extended to Denny Crum, in exchange for his voluntary resignation as Head Coach.

The level of personal humiliation that Kenny is experiencing is not good for either him, his family or his career. I think Heird's recent statement was the first of more to come that assures this community that Payne is not being fired, but rather allowing him to move in a role that is better suited for his career.

Payne is at an age where he needs a situation that takes him to retirement, and I am sure the same folks who pushed him to take this job will care enough for him to encourage his acceptance.

I think the team has folded (except for El and Mike James) and that all but those two should go in the portal. This group of players helped drive Mack to resignation and now won’t give effort for Payne. However Payne will be given an off-season to pull an LSU and just totally revamp the roster via the portal.

I think we all agree it would be in both parties best interest but I don’t see any way KP leaves after failing. I would guess he is more driven than ever to figure it out. Heird isn’t giving full support then pulling the plug. Too many factors in play.

I encourage everyone to watch the body language of the best player. Watch him after things go bad offense. His energy on defense goes to zero and back up once he has the ball. We are in game 15-16 he is still on an emotional roller coaster and he is the point guard.

That is most damning thing against KP is his captains don’t play defense or hard for long stretches. That can’t happen at this level. Both should be non negotiable things. You have no chance without them. This roster is a mental train wreck.

Institution liberalism? WTF? I really don’t see where politics has anything to do with this. I’m liberal and I want KP gone yesterday! You’re generally pretty pragmatic but this term is off base.

There's politics in everything. You can't be so naive to think that firing the first black head coach in Louisville basketball history after just one year, won't be politicized. It shouldn't be this way but it's the reality of the times.

True.
There are political ramifications in almost every situation.
Thats why Payne will be approached about resigning.

If he was " begged" to take the job , then he can be " begged " to resign.

Substitute progressive for liberal, it’s just semantics.

No way IMO that a group of bleeding-heart elitist bureaucrats are gonna do anything but give a minority coach every chance possible to do the job. That “chance” includes recruiting his own players and learning on the job, more than one year provides.

I just hope two years get the job done…

Another loss....another big blow out. This is embarrassing. No college team should shoot :
1 for 14 from 3 pointers. 7 %
20 for 54. 37%
AT HOME!!!!!!
Here’s a box score of the Rick Pitino coached Cards team (that went 25-9) against UVA in the last regular season game of 2016. UVA- 68 UofL- 46.

Granted, it was on the road but: 16 for 58 shooting from the field (27.6%) 4-22 from 3 and that was with a team that included:
Donovan Mitchell
Ray Spalding
Deng Adel
Damien Lee and
Quentin Snyder.

A game you conveniently picked. We’re experiencing that now nearly every game.

You mean the team that self banned and therefore had nothing to play for in that final game of the year?

Again, this “bleeding heart elitist “ has had enough of him.

I think he's going to survive this year but he'll be let go mid season next year cuz I don't think it's going to get a top 20 class I don't think he's going to do good on the transfers and he'll have a bad season and have no more excuses about the cloud

Does Payne really know what to do as collegiate Head Basketball Coach? Does he know how to "build a program"?

He spent 5 years as an OR assistant under I don't know who. But how much did he learn about coaching?

He then spent 11 years as an assistant to Calipari at UK. Again I ask: "How much did he learn about coaching"?

He then spent 1 year in the NBA with the Knicks as an assistant before getting the UoL job - his FIRST HC job.

I had no real problem with his selection as HC but I grossly underestimated the "state" of the program. Is he the guy that can fix it? I don't know.

Peace

Sampled a couple of podcasts last week of the Jerry Eaves radio show. (Couldn't stand to listen to the entire show...) One of them had Butch Beard as a guest.

Based on that recent but limited sample, Payne's posse is still talking up patience and Payne getting his own players. IOW they're not (yet) laying the foundation for his exit this year.

That won't happen until his inner circle starts distancing themselves from him and his results. And until then, I'm monitoring for public efforts to help him. Before these podcasts, Eaves said that day would come for him personally, but no evidence of that yet.

Beard and Eaves have no financial where-with-all, nor any real influence within the University; conversely Junior and Wade have the financial resources, influence within the University and the respect of just about everyone in this community. They must recognize the painful humiliation that Kenny is going through, and they will be the ones to help resolve this impending disaster.

No question that money talks. But there's a heightened sensitivity to the players' group. Most of those guys don't have money, but some will stand in front of a microphone.

And I think most of them will migrate together. I doubt they will be individually all over the place in the aftermath of Payne. I'm SAMPLING guys who will talk about Payne this year for the sentiments of the group.

Just heard Marc Spiegel on the 93.9 postgame say the same thing. Payne's hard core supporters haven't yet fractured...

No but people buying suites and making big CAF donations do..
I had this discussion the other night. Some of those buyers are in long term contracts. One season doesn't make or break the deal.

Also, people sitting in prime, lower arena seats paid significant one-time initiation fees to get those seats. Most look at the money paid as some sort of investment and are reluctant to turn their backs on it. What they pay now to CAF is a fraction of the overall revenue stream, and their logic is they don't want to start that process over again when times get good.

Also, bad times first shake out the weak hands. People with one foot in the boat fell out a long time ago. Now you're trying to shake out the hardcore buyers. More difficult.

Lastly, when you've left the boat, you're more reluctant to repeat a potential mistake, i.e., get back in the boat. Still the same U of L clowns making coaching hires.

It's why you can't financially justify paying millions to dislodge Payne and bring in a new, highly paid coach...

I agree his supporters fracturing isn’t occurring until next year. At that point he either figures it out or he doesn’t. The people that mattered knew this year was going to be rough. I seriously doubt they envisioned this mess.

The people in the basketball world better that told Kenny to take the job better start making calls. This off-season will determine his future. The only way out is to kill it in the portal and land studs in the 2024 class. He whiffs on both he is a dead man walking. Even if he kills it in both is still in the ICU.

Nothing would surprise me at this point because it has been so bad.

Payne must go. Period! As a Cardinal fan, this unacceptable. That is all!
As someone who has been to closed practice and have seen KPs coaching first hand, I wish more people got an opportunity to see these kids being coached hard & challenged daily, then see those same kids not do what they were told/asked/challenged to do during the game. KP's not perfect and his record as a head coach is what it is, but at a certain point these kids gotta man up and take pride in what is supposed to be their craft. Thats bigger than basketball... You can't half ass your way through life and expect success

Me personally, I refuse to write KP and this staff off. BUT next season has to be a 180 from this. I hope that it will be after a roster overhaul. We'll see
