With all the speculation about some ACC teams wanting to join the SEC or B10 & trying to find a way out of the GOR, ect.,
how confident (or worried) are you about your future?

With the world in thermal, why would I worry about the college sports landscape changing. There has been changing over time from the beginning. Remember the SEC segregation.
The CARDS will be ok wherever they land.

Peace

All I know is UofL picked a bad time to not be very good at football. Of course, the rest of the ACC sans Clemson, hasn't fared much better. It's unfortunate timing for the conference to be so down.

Clemson wants to join the $EC because of the vast $/team difference between the (new)$EC & the ACC & realize the $EC would take them if they could. They know that in order to compete with Alabama & Georgia on a level playing field they have to have the same $/team that they enjoy. The GOR buys time for the ACC for a decade. Hope for the best after that.

How secure or concerned are you for K-State these days? ;)
It all depends upon our new media rights deal. We are on better footing with the coming of 4 quality new comers since Mad Cow & Boomer are leaving. They will expand our footprint into Ohio & Florida. BYU is a smaller ND.

If our new media rights deal is > than the P12 new deal will be then we will be in good shape. It's the P12 teams that should worry. B10 commish said the B10 will explore expansion after the new media rights deal is done. Then Huskies & Ducks could bolt. I don't see the ACC wanting to expand.

12375CAT: actually, for the reasons that you accurately assigned to Clemson, the Tigers would be placing themselves in serious jeopardy of losing their unique position in the NC conversation. Replacing their existing ACC schedule with the possibility of playing UGA, LSU, A&M, Auburn and Alabama will not turn out well for them.

The NC selection system will always try to include other P5 conference champions and other undefeated teams outside of the SEC, and that is one powerful motivation for both Norte Dame and Clemson to remain outside of the SEC. Clemson might be able to split 50/50 against one SEC powerhouse each year, but they will come up short if they play a full SEC conference schedule.

I understand chasing the money, but Clemson doesn’t need to chase the money. They are the king of the hill in the ACC. They move to the SEC they are going to struggle to stay on top. That is just reality.

The ACC has to get others to rise up and take football seriously. Miami, FSU, Virginia Tech, Louisville, and NC State have to get better and stay there. Syracuse and BC have to get better. Having them releveantThey do that then the money will come. All of those have great stadiums and atmospheres when they are good.

They go to a 16 team playoff then ACC is going no where but up. The genuine access to playoff plus NIL-transfers will spread the talent out. Eventually parody will happen, where 10–12 teams have a legit shot at the titles instead of 1-4 teams.

If Clemson can still recruit extremely well then they will continue to have an easier path to the playoff. But the $ difference per team here vs the SEC has to be annoying to them. It is a choice between the easier path to the playoff here & making much > $/team @ the SEC. What would the Cards have done (if Dabo was @ PJFS instead)?

Dabo doesn’t have a say. The prez and BOT make the call when it comes to business decisions. The $ discrepancy isn’t just annoying to Clemson. It’s annoying to all ACC teams.

What would (most likely) be your prez & BOT decisions if Dabo was coaching @ PJFS & you can pull (another) Maryland?
& which would you prefer. Stay or bolt to the SEC?

I think there's a real question about whether college football will hold the interest of fans at schools that are left behind. There are fans in the Big 12 that spent their whole lives circling Oklahoma and Texas on their schedules every year. That was their big rivalry game. Now who do they circle? Oklahoma State? Baylor?

They won't really feel all this for a few years until the teams actually move out of the PAC-12 and Big 12.

I think there's a growing apathy for many reasons. If those fans tune out it'll be very difficult if not impossible to get them back.

All these moves. All these changes. They are killing the sport. It was dying beforehand. Joe Schmo the fan, who puts every ounce of time, energy, and support into it, it’s not hard to see the turnoff. So much greed.

I don’t think it is killing the sport but they maybe killing attendance. When teams are 6-6 more people watch at home than live. People start checking out after 1-2 losses today. The season is effectively over for most of the fans. If your team is alive for the national title attendance will stay pretty good.

This why I love the 16 team playoff. We talk about attendance on here. You know they are doing the same at the higher levels. The longer you can keep any fanbase engaged the better. No team or program is immune from attendance drop if that team is 6-6 or eliminated from title contention. By expanding to 16 they could keep up to 30 teams engaged a 3rd of the season. Today it is 6-8.

Top 8 you get a home playoff game. It just makes too much sense to expand the playoff. I liked 12 but love 16.

It’s true, this process is out of control and being fueled by greed and entitlement. I too envision College football could evolve into a disaster when most schools are left out of the process.

Some of these schools who can’t wait to make a money grab may get rich(er).

But they also…May never see the success they have in the past. 🤷‍♂️

For every action there is a reaction

The older I get, the less I care. But it would be funny to watch Clemson, Auburn and maybe Oklahoma and UCLA with some others whining and left out like Nebraska and Tennessee have been lately.

They will just have to cry all the way to the bank.

They (and us too) think more money equals more success. But don’t they realize the people who are already “ahead” of them are going to get more money too? And if so, what makes them think they won’t stay “ahead” of them?

If I were rich to start with I’d rather be more “successful” than more rich. And that would make them richer on its own.

But that’s just me.

Simple answer to ACC- win.

I like home playoff games, too- just like FCS- it works fine. I don’t understand the attraction to bowl games. I guess it’s just that they are mostly ESPN properties. But there are too many, and a lot of players are skipping them now.

The ACC's Grant of Rights is good till the 2035-2036 season. No teams from the ACC are going to be poached, because of this. The ACC teams will not make the money that SEC and Big 10 will bring, but the ACC is a solid 3rd conference. Stay the course.

Valid point OHM, and I agree with your premise. I hope you right, but with all the monetary influences in play, I have concerns about the instability of any of our institutions as this process continues to evolve.

Totally agree. And I don't see how a lot of these games remain profitable. The main sponsor is huge, but oftentimes you see like 15-20K people at a lot of these games. Watered down with a bunch of teams most could care less about!
