One of the main complaints against Mack was that his style of play was boring to watch and wasn't what UofL basketball was accustomed to being.

How important is a potential new coach's style of play to you? That can include pressing, fast pace offense, a certain type of defensive philosophy etc.

It's not that important for me as it is to adjust during the game when the other coach is trying to stop what you do or find out your weakness.
I watched a football game Saturday with my Packers and SF in which the 49ers defense got hammered the first series by Adams. They adjusted after that by doubling Adams for the rest of the game.GB never really made their adjustments to that.
In other words,I'd prefer a coach willing to be smart enough to adapt on the fly as opposed to being rigid about his particular style of play when it's not working.

I think in looking at our 2 HOF coaches, I think Crum was better adapting to other team. Yeah he had his certain plays and he liked having big guards but he could change from man to man, box and 1, zone, etc.
Coach Pitino had a system designed to wear you down through turnovers, 10-12 point runs (boom you), quick 3’s and if we executed, it was difficult for the other to match us. Both were very effective.

I'm not going to pretend like style of play or any other factors are more important to me than winning. I don't care if we're winning 40-38 games as long as we're cutting down nets.

That being said, who doesn't enjoy watching an up-tempo offense and pressing attack on defense? It's more exciting to watch.

Yeah I'd definitely prefer stopping the other team anyway possible but pushing the ball up the court. It's fun to watch and it leads to easy baskets.

Winning is most important, but I'm trying to imagine being a UVA fan when they aren't winning championships and it is a painful thing to imagine.

When Mack's teams were down by 10+ (or even 6+), you knew it was over. The style of play didn't really provide for Louisville to come back in a hurry, but the style of play did provide for other teams to come back in a hurry.

How about Dean Smith and the coveted four corner offense. They won a lot of games and their fans seemed happy about it. What about here?

Haha, well one he's Dean Smith, he could do whatever he wanted. But as a fan, um, yeah if they're winning titles with Michael Jordan and James Worthy out there dunking on fools then of course that's a blast to watch but otherwise that would be tough (for me) when not the case.

After 35+ years of up tempo, fast break, pressing athletic approach’s on both ends - I’d say that is what the fan base enjoys most. Winning is great but much like Hank said, how you win is important as well. I know this is going to sound crazy given the state of the program but, I would hate to be a UVA fan. That would be freaking miserable - despite the results. Might as well watch soccer…

I agree that winning games is most important for a new coach. But having a more exciting style is near the top of the list for me too. The ideal of course is to be able to watch a fun style while also winning.
