How did replay overturn time running out?

The question to the ACC should be is replay allowed to check if a timeout has been called before time runs off the clock?

We're always told that there has to be obvious video footage to overturn the call on the field. The call was time ran out and replay overturned it.

How? All TV showed was replay of the runner being down with a graphic showing the clock with under a full second left. The replay official ruled to overturn based on this and not footage of a ref seeing a timeout being called with time on the clock.

The announcers went with it even though you could hear one of them saying did they overturn it on that?

There needs to be an explanation on what did the replay official see to overturn the ruling that the clock ran out. I think a major mistake was made here and had this been a Alabama game there would have been more discussion about it on the field.

I think Satterfield was so shocked he didn't have time to complain enough. This shouldn't be let go. It's not going to change the outcome but there needs to be some kind of explanation on why it was overturned.

I hate to admit it Rollem, but once again strange ACC officiating calls have gone against the Cards in conference games. The decision to put another second on the clock was not only wrong, but took place on a replay video that failed to prove overturning the initial ruling that ended the half.

In order to overturn the call, you would have to believe two (2) separate events occurred within 1 second; and in this instance, that is not possible. First, the play must have been blown dead as soon as the runner was down (while possible, it is unlikely). Then one must believe that simultaneously, WF called and was awarded the timeout.

Video evidence shows the runner down with one second on the clock, so the replay crew would have to obtain confirmation that indeed the whistle was blown as soon as the runner was down. Additionally the replay crew would have to know from the official as to which WF player or coach called the timeout. WF cannot even call the timeout until the play has been blown dead, so how quick can WF react to call timeout?

It was not the only bad call that occurred at a most in opportune time against UL, the block in the back was horrible and instead of a first down it was 2nd and long.

The explanation coming from WF is the coach told the ref he wants a timeout if there's time left after the play. This before the play starts. So are we to accept that a coach or a player doesn't actually have to verbally or visually call for a timeout? He can tell a ref before the play and the ref will call the timeout for him?

This should be a big story in college football. No way this exact same thing would have happened in a playoff game. The replay booth overturned a call it had no business viewing in the first place.

And of course when something like this happens, it effects Louisville. It just never ends.

My tape says the whistle didn’t blow until the clock was 0:00. We ran it back several times.

So even if he “predated” his TO there was no time left.

We got hosed with ACC backing.
THIS.
The runner was down. The whistle blew. The clock was at zero. The half was over.

The “WF explanation” is disingenuous, as audio evidence is clearly heard when the clock indicated 00.0 You cannot call timeout before the play has been blown dead.

With that said, Clausen spent a lot of time and energy working the officials, and complaining on almost every down; something that caught the attention of those responsible for filming the game. Not sure I can recall a televised game that spent that much time showing the HC on the sidelines complaining to the officials.

If it was just one official on the field making a bad call, that is one thing …… there were several bad calls against UL that took place at times that resulted in taking away Card momentum and field position. When it includes the ACC video review overturning a clock decision like this one …….it is inexcusable.

Serious question....

Coaches can't complain, berate, or ridicule Referees in PC's without being fined or even suspended.

So why is it allowed on TV and in front of 30k-100k live, can they stomp, bitch, moan, and CURSE with hate in their eyes?

It is blatantly obvious they are complaining, berating, and ridiculing the Refs.

Clausen, and any other coach who do what him and dozens of others do should get a penalty. Every time. And ejected on the third penalty.

They need to do their job and Let the refs do theirs.

I have the game DVR'd also, and have replayed it multiple times. There was absolutely NO time left when the official blew the whistle to end the play. It was a blatant screw job by the replay officials.

Vince needs to send this to the ACC; until someone registers a formal challenge, this sort of bias against UL will contine. Satterfield cannot be the one to complain beyond asking for explanation; this requires the AD to take it up to the Conference Commissioner. The audio and video evidence is compelling enough to question who and how was the ruling on the field overturned.
