I’m not totally unloading on Padgett so I don’t understand the Morgantown attack, but I can take it! With that said, Coach Padgett didn’t have to take the job and he is making $900,000 for his trouble.
So, why not front the post? It’s a legitimate question. I think all our guys in the middle weigh an average of what? 122 lbs each (sarcasm)? You play behind them and they just back you down. At least when you front the post you get back side help and the entry pass is more difficult. And, Padgett played at this level and he did play the post position. It really is basketball 101.
It is a question. Hopefully someone asked coach why he didn't do that. He was probably worried about the lob over the top since both those of the Purdue 7 footers were taller than our tallest player. Besides, if he had done that, then when the wings came in to help, it would open up the 3 point shooters for them, and up until last night, Purdue was one of the better 3 point shooting teams in the nation.I’m not totally unloading on Padgett so I don’t understand the Morgantown attack, but I can take it! Padgett was just a little uptight tonight. I completely understand why. His interview at halftime well he spoke very fast. Never heard him speak like that before. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be thrown into the situation he’s in right now.
So Padgett gets a big pass from me. You won’t hear me speak one negative word about him. I’m just glad he took the gig. As for the players I am very sympathetic because they did not ask for this either.
My criticisms will be very few. Plus it gets me in the minds set of what we could face from the the NCAA.
It was the very first road game and the frosh played like it. That is expected. It can be used as a learning experience for all including coach.I’m not going to criticize CDP on this one either but on the doorstep of our seniors and captains for not showing up in the leadership department. Coming in we were one of the top shot blocking teams in the country and we only had 1? Mahmoud goes for every ball fake whether the guy is 5-11 or 7-0. Ray needs to show up in big games not just games where the tallest player is 6-7. CDP had us in a position to win, the players didn’t execute.
Exactly! I mean I don’t even know why they play the second half when teams win the game in the first. The game should have been won in the first half when we started missing close shots and layups as usual. Also missing free throws.
You can go easy on Padgett without exaggerating the truth. Pitino rarely lost a game like this last one...Hey Fans,
Pitino lost games like this too.
The team did not play well in a winnable game. Period.

That is the main point that needs to be made. The responsibility falls on Padgett AND his upperclassmen to create an identity for this team. It can be defense. It can be passing. It can be shooting. Don't care but it needs cohesion, and that should start with the upperclassmen once coach directs them on what he wants done. The upperclassmen have to execute. The frosh are going to be frosh. They're going to play great at times, and not so great at other times. The consistency has to come from the upperclassmen. The upperclassmen can and have to play better.
Heck I remember 3 games last year especially Baylor that we had leads well into the 2nd half only to have the offense go stagnant and the Cards to lose. You can go easy on Padgett without exaggerating the truth. Pitino rarely lost a game like this last one...
