Hey Coach Padgett...

Padgett was just a little uptight tonight. I completely understand why. His interview at halftime well he spoke very fast. Never heard him speak like that before. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be thrown into the situation he’s in right now.

So Padgett gets a big pass from me. You won’t hear me speak one negative word about him. I’m just glad he took the gig. As for the players I am very sympathetic because they did not ask for this either.

My criticisms will be very few. Plus it gets me in the minds set of what we could face from the the NCAA.

I’m not totally unloading on Padgett so I don’t understand the Morgantown attack, but I can take it! With that said, Coach Padgett didn’t have to take the job and he is making $900,000 for his trouble.

So, why not front the post? It’s a legitimate question. I think all our guys in the middle weigh an average of what? 122 lbs each (sarcasm)? You play behind them and they just back you down. At least when you front the post you get back side help and the entry pass is more difficult. And, Padgett played at this level and he did play the post position. It really is basketball 101.

I suspect the team and Padgett learned a lot during this game.

I apologize, sincerely, I was out of line. My apologies. I'll delete my post.

It is a question. Hopefully someone asked coach why he didn't do that. He was probably worried about the lob over the top since both those of the Purdue 7 footers were taller than our tallest player. Besides, if he had done that, then when the wings came in to help, it would open up the 3 point shooters for them, and up until last night, Purdue was one of the better 3 point shooting teams in the nation.

The game went pretty much as I expected. I thought the Cards would hang tough and then a call or two would start the ball rolling for the Boilermakers. It just took longer than I expected which means I have a very positive outlook for this team moving forward. The biggest mistake I thought coach made last night was rolling the dice with Spalding and leaving him in the game after he picked up his 3rd foul. He did hit a huge 3 pointer right before picking up his 4th foul with over 13 minutes left in the game. Still, that lone foul set the table for the loss IMO.

Big pass from me as well. Was CDP the Senior point guard who was -13, barely scored and played 39 minutes tonight? Nope. Or was CDP one of our big guys that missed 10+ layups tonight? Nope. Get real boys, the coaching didn't lose this one(although I do agree the post should've been fronted much sooner).

I’m not going to criticize CDP on this one either but on the doorstep of our seniors and captains for not showing up in the leadership department. Coming in we were one of the top shot blocking teams in the country and we only had 1? Mahmoud goes for every ball fake whether the guy is 5-11 or 7-0. Ray needs to show up in big games not just games where the tallest player is 6-7. CDP had us in a position to win, the players didn’t execute.

It was the very first road game and the frosh played like it. That is expected. It can be used as a learning experience for all including coach.

Some positives from last night

1. King played well. He didn't hunt for his shot and played within the flow of the offense much better. He played solid defense. I've been waiting for him to have this type of game. He can build on that.

2. Ray plays solid defense most of the time. He did have a lapse late in the game which cost us, but overall I like the energy he plays with. His offense is still a work in progress but looked better.

3. Anas passes the ball well out of the high post. I like his hook shot and would like to see more of that.

4. Adel is without a doubt a first round draft choice. TBD how high in the first round he goes but he is a pro in waiting. Solid all around game.

The player I was most disappointed with last night was Snider. He had a terrible game. He did have 6 assist, but he was turnover prone, and he was a liability on defense. Poor game by Q. He has to be much better moving forward.

You can go easy on Padgett without exaggerating the truth. Pitino rarely lost a game like this last one...

The road game at Purdue was a possible loss with Pitino or any other coach. I don’t believe Pitino loses the Seton Hall game though.

I’m not a Pitino hater... Attempting to support the team and current coach under some rather odd and difficult circumstances. DP is learning on the job. The upperclassmen can and have to play better.

That is the main point that needs to be made. The responsibility falls on Padgett AND his upperclassmen to create an identity for this team. It can be defense. It can be passing. It can be shooting. Don't care but it needs cohesion, and that should start with the upperclassmen once coach directs them on what he wants done. The upperclassmen have to execute. The frosh are going to be frosh. They're going to play great at times, and not so great at other times. The consistency has to come from the upperclassmen.

Great point LouisvilleKid79.

Heck I remember 3 games last year especially Baylor that we had leads well into the 2nd half only to have the offense go stagnant and the Cards to lose.
