Hate to jump the gun on anything, but...

We certainly have a chance! The real season starts Friday, however. Syracuse looked very good against a nationally ranked FCS team (Colgate) that almost certainly is better than Charlotte. I'm going to reserve any judgment until I see how we play against the Orange.

We can win the ACC. :)

Why do some of you start doing this stuff? Good grief! Dude watches one half of one game of one opponent and out comes the kooky talk. I suppose we could, but using what you claim to have seen on opening weekend as some sort of predictor is ludicrous but par for the course for some of our fans.

There is more senior leadership on this year's team than next. We lose a lot of valuable defensive experience.
^^ This. THIS is our year to make it happen, especially with the talent on defense, so I agree with ajg, and I can assure you Bobby thinks he can win this year too. With this team you'd better think you can win or you need to be in a different profession. The good news is we'll know soon enough.

I agree with Pushup. The kids MUST stay focused and play 1 game at a time. There is no way they can overlook Syracuse or any team on this schedule. The Orange Dome will be loud and rocking. The Cardinals will have to play with poise and confidence to win Friday night.

We as fans can look ahead, and yes we will have our chance. We get to play both teams that are favored to win the ACC. We beat both, then we have a great chance at winning the ACC and more importantly, a great chance to make the playoffs.

My comment wasn't based entirely on a half of football, or a weekend. If you had half a brain, you'd know we have a pretty talented young QB, several talented & proven players around him, a talented & proven head coach as their leader, and will be ranked in the nation's top 20 by virtually everyone that has a top 20.

You, my friend, seem to be the biggest "KooK" on this forum. I wonder how many likes this post gets?

I'm "sure" about nothing, except that I think we have a chance! No doubt I jumped the gun on FSU, though. They look like a totally different team in the second half. ;)
Not really. They got fired up but they got lots of help from Ole Miss. The Rebels melted down right away in the 2nd half with a INT and a fumble back to back. Suddenly, FSU had the lead and the Rebels no longer were confident they could win.

FSU were pass happy with the QB throwing over 50 passes. Cook had only 91 rushing yards. Not the kind of balance Coach Fisher wants. They also had to settle for 6 FG'S.

The 'Noles defense gave up a lot of open passes and Chad Kelly even had plenty of runs opportunities. Lamar Jackson will like seeing the film on that.

FSU is a damn good team and will be a huge challenge for the Cards. We will have to limit mistakes and not give the Seminoles easy points. If we have another halftime lead, we have to avoid the things that let FSU back in.

In some respects, I agree with you. DeAngelo Brown, Harvey-Clemons, Fields and Kelsey are the only seniors in the two-deep, so we should be a deeper team on defense next year. Whether we will have any players next year who are first or second round NFL talent like Harvey-Clemons or Fields is unlikely.

We actually lose a little more out of the two-deep on offense after this year: Radcliff, Hikutini, Towbridge, Quick, Staples, and three offensive linemen (Hughley, Mahoni, and Hunter).

Get back to me in late October, November. I just want to beat Syracuse and to see if we can take down a top 5 team at home. The end of the year will take care of itself.

Glass half empty re. the "next year" concerns and our losses on defense...

How good is this OFFENSE gonna be next year? We lose Quick, Radcliff, Hikutini, and that's about it. May break the 2004 scoring records against a lot better schedule...

Staples and Towbridge are pretty good players, too ... but we do have young players seeing significant minutes backing them up.

Forgot about Jamari. But we're so deep at WR, I can't see how we don't actually improve at that position with another year of maturity.

Assuming LJ stays healthy, this offense will be feared by everyone next year. And I'm not prone to superlatives...

Oh yes you are ... "slapd!ck" is definitely a superlative (in the glass is half empty direction).

:)

As most folks know, the normal rules don't apply to LPT.

OK, everyone, you heard it. The Crunch Zone is officially shut down, until late October. No need for us to discuss our favorite team, until then. See you guys later.

Let me tell you something, Jay.

When I attended UofL 30 years ago, a gruff, but confident pipe-smoking figure came to little 'ol Louisville and told anyone that cared to listen that one day we could win a national championship. At first, we laughed. Thought he was nuts, wondered what he was really smoking in that pipe. But something was different about this guy. To many of us, he planted a dream.

And before I could blink, I found myself getting out of the lot much earlier than normal...for kickoff...to watch my Cardinals, and dream. Somehow, some way, for some really strange reason, I wanted to believe. Maybe it was a pipe dream? Didn't matter. So I tried, and became one of the core 25K that would become that foundation for Louisville football. I drank the Kool-Aid.

Over the last 30 years I've watched a program grow, to a level that I could never really have seriously imagined, and I partook in its growth...became an integral part of that dream. I remember smacking Alabama in the teeth in the Fiesta Bowl, shocking the nation. I remember going to Columbus in the Shoe & surprising the mighty Buckeyes, only to have the game "stolen" from us on a bad call on an onsides kick (before instant replay). I remember taking out a highly ranked BYU team in the Liberty Bowl, running on the field the night the goal posts came down against Bobby Bowden's powerful Seminoles, the Urrutia stiff-arm the day we took down the U, and that awesome original blackout Thursday night top-5 showdown win over WHite & Slaton's explosive WVU squad. And who could forget the Orange Bowl, and the Sugar Bowl beat down of the mighty Gators?

But over those 30 years of building, and awesome Cardinal football memories, how often can you actually say that there were any thoughts whatsoever of having an opportunity to play for a national title? Once, maybe, for about a week, in 2006, right? Between the WVU and Rutgers Thursday night games?

Well, now we're in the ACC, there is a 4-team playoff, and the ACC Champ has made that playoff each year. Win, and you're in. We have, arguably, one of our most talented teams in school history (rumor has it our coach "really" likes this team, and thinks it may be the most talent he's ever had). We might not be the most talented, but we might have enough to beat anyone in our conference on a given day, with some good fortune. When you've waited for 30 years, thats enough for me!

JAY, you aren't going to steal my dreams! We're winning the ACC...this year! At least that's my dream!!

And if we come up short and lose? Big F'n deal, we get back up, and try again next year. If you think I'm a Kook, go ahead and think that, I don't care. We're good, and I'm going to enjoy the ride. I've invested too much over the last 3 decades not to.

For now, we're 1-0, ranked in the top 15, and heading to the carrier Dome to kick some ass. Then we get the Noles, in the Oven, and we're due for another priceless memory, and another step on that historic climb. Don't be afraid. Embrace it. Enjoy it. Be a part of it. GO Cards. #L1C4

Standing O! I read that with tears (happy tears) in my eyes! Beautiful. Right up there with "I have a Dream"

The Cards have the potential to win the ACC...and as Bobby Bowden used to say..."potential means that they ain't done it yet".

Great post AJG. Well stated!!

Very true, Roady. I don't think anyone here would argue with you on that, or even say it's a foregone conclusion that we will... It's a tall task, we're just excited to have a team that just might be able to get it done.
